The history of the Sacramento Freehold is inconsistent and diverse. It has known feast and famine, war and peace, bliss and pain. Many attribute this to the Freehold's status as a hub for travel up and down the West coast. Many more Changelings pass through Sacramento than ever put down roots and stay, and you would be hard pressed to find a native among the Freehold. It's mood can depend a great deal on who it currently counts among it's pledged members, and what boons or troubles they bring with them or find in their residence.
That is less true, of late. A cloud has hung over the Freehold in recent years. Manifested most dramatically in the burning of the Four Seasons, the former commons of the entire 'Hold, by the Draconic True Fae who calls himself Fairweather. The dragon claimed vassals and sovereigns alike as he wrought devastation upon the Changelings of Sacramento, and then abruptly vanished back into the Hedge. His work continues, however. His minions burn a path through the surrounding Hollows, searching for something. His real-world businesses make moves and counter-moves, all in service to some hidden agenda. And the mortal guise of the Fae himself has been spotted again on the streets of Sacramento.
As if these weren't troubles enough, Sacramento has also been struck by the abandonment of it's leadership. In the Spring of 2016, all four Sovereigns vanished, leaving behind only a few tokens of their good-will and a letter of consolation and hope. In their wake, new Sovereigns have emerged, untested Queens of each of the four Seasons, who lead their Courts through this time of danger and strife. Even as the dragon works, other matters continue to assail them. Mad Changelings, escaped hedge-beasts, an unfriendly goblin market, and other troubles besides continue to test the Freehold's capacity to deal with adversity. Such desperate struggles drive many Lost to hunger, to anger, to fear, and to sorrow, for every battle fought is mirrored in their own fractured minds.
What good would it do to retain Sacramento but lose your mind?
