Organizations

Every Mortal character should belong to one of the three following groups; either working for them directly, as a consultant, or having ties to someone else who is involved.

  • The listed requirements are for actual membership in the groups; characters affiliated with (consultants, friends of members, etc) but not true members are not required to make these purchases.

DHS, Geosciences

Department of Homeland Security, Geosciences Division

This is the last stop on the train.

Ostensibly tasked to evaluate the impact of geophysical warfare (yes, Virginia, we're talking quake-making lasers from satellites) as well as the threat and likelihood of naturally occurring phenomenon, the truth is that this is where they send good agents that have cracked, or old agents out to pasture. This is also where men and women who didn't quite fit in with other agencies find themselves, generously offered this assignment or early retirement.

Sure, you've still got a badge, but mall security and school cops get about the same level of respect. That's aside from all the baking-soda volcano jokes. The cherry on top is that you get all the crack-pot assignments to follow-up.

But, hey, you've got to make a living right?

And some of this shit might be true.

Sacramento's field office is run by SAC Mr. Johnson.

Wallis Engineering

Quietly well-reputed as a engineering and facilities management firm, Wallis has small branches all over the US. Two things tend to stand out: they always seem to be too busy for new clients, and their offices are typically small, given that most private engineering and architecture facilities have bullpens with dozens of draftsmen.

Beneath the Herman Miller veneer, is a well oiled grifting machine that specializes in antiquities and art. Well funded by the reclusive Woods family, rumor has it that the best of the best are 'adopted' and assume the family name.

By the time you find out who they are, they've been watching you. Or perhaps you never found out and simply got a job offer. Either way, for the specialized criminal, they're the Delta Force of the underworld.

All those whispers about them having the devil's luck and crystal balls? Just haters.

Sacramento's division is headed by Christine Woods and Harry Woods.

Dept. of Paranormal Studies

The department of paranormal studies is the joke of California University. Every academic department is pointing and laughing at them. No actual ghosts have ever been seen or proven to exist by the department. Sure, they have readings and some high tech equipment but it has not actually proven the existence of the paranormal. Hell, they don’t just deal with ghosts. The department’s academic base is mostly in mythology and supernatural theory. But that’s all it is.

Or is it? The paranormal studies course covers many topics; Ghosts, spirits, demons, extraterrestrial life, UFO’s, cryptozoology, cults and more.
