The Bear Lodge is a compact of hunters that first appear in the book Spirit Slayers. The compact is dedicated to hunting down strange supernatural creatures, particularly werewolves, for sport.
History
In 1901, several American hunters gathered in a small Montana town to discuss the strange things they had seen while hunting. Many reported encounters with odd...things, but one hunter, Don Edwards, topped them all of an encounter with three werewolves he survived. From there, the hunters founded a club to help them and others hunt down supernatural creatures. Other Lodges began to open across the country.
Purpose
The Bear Lodge is only interested in big game...most notably the kind that transforms into fierce creatures beyond explanation. Members of the Bear Lodge primarily exist to organize hunting parties, provide information, and offer experience to members wishing to hunt. While a few members like to hunt other supernaturals, the number one target of the Lodge is still werewolves.
Organization
There are currently five lodges throughout North America; the original one in Montana is in the hands of werewolves. A member at any Lodge is also considered a member at all lodges. The more successful kills a hunter has, the higher his or her standing among the other Lodge members is. Most of the Lodge is rurally-based, but there are a few Lodge members who have become skilled at urban hunting.
There are three main types of hunters: Sportsmen hunt for the thrill and skill, Trappers hunt to keep werewolves from hurting others, and Vigilantes exact justice on those creatures of darkness who have done wrong.
