Improvised Shield
Improvised shields should be assumed to offer +1 to
Defense. Improvised shields aren’t made for combat and suffer several flaws.
- First, all attacks made while wielding a improvised shield suffer a –3 penalty.
- Second, improvised shields lack resilience: an improvised shield will last a number of hits equal to its Structure. An umbrella won’t withstand much damage (Structure 2, destroyed in two hits), but a metal garbage can lid (Structure 4) or wooden chair (Structure 5) may deflect a few blows before destruction.
- The strength requirement to wield an object as a shield is related to the how much you can lift. If lifting the object to use as a shield would be a Strength Feat (see table on Strength page) for the user then they aren't strong enough to wield it as a shield.
