The discussion and pronouncement of judgement in the Case of Striker versus the Precept of Secrecy in October 2014.^[1]

Results

Striker admitted to breaking the Precept of Secrecy twice in the casting of Vulgar magic in front of Sleeper Witnesses and in Public. The judgement of a Minor Penance and a Minor Favor were levied. The Minor Penance was for Magus Striker to stand alone as watchman for a week. The Minor Favor is owed to the Guardians of the Veil as gifted by Star.

• Vulgar magic was cast before witnesses of unknown understanding in a public park. This casting was counterspelled before the magic was unleashed and the breach was avoided, but the intent was witnessed and admitted to by the accused.
• Vulgar magic was cast in a combative circumstance with Sleeper witnesses who escaped. This act was witnessed and admitted to by the accused.

Illumination

The Precept of Secrecy is our most important promise to ourselves and to the larger world around us. Breaching it, much less breaching it frivolously, should never be done. When one breaks the Precept of Secrecy, the Truth will be found.

Magic is a gift to those of us who can understand it. Betraying that gift to those who cannot understand it is a sin and a waste. Madness lies down that path for the sleeping mind, and danger lies around each corner. Leniency is for those who are repentant and recognize their sin against our kind. Repeated behavior like this endangers us all.

And let’s be clear, it’s not the casting of Vulgar magic which breaks this Law. It’s the circumstances. It’s always the circumstances. We enlightened beings need to always be aware of our surroundings. It’s part of our existence. Be aware. Be safe. Know what you’re doing.
