Rawlins

As Rawlins hit his 50s, he had everything going for him: a beautiful wife, well paid job and the respect of his field (Lawyer involved in the policy making / lobbying process). Then it all fell apart in a series of spectacular implosions that left him divorced, destitute and nearly ostracised from his family.
As far as the Herd knows, he crashed through a late onset mid-life crisis and series of affairs. As far as the People know, he went through his First Change, re-evaluated his priorities, narrowly avoided "recruitment" into the Pure Tribes and received initiation into the Bone Shadows. The decision to break from his family was own, made to underscore what he had become: he had lived one life as a human, now he had to forge a new life as Uratha - his children, even his wife, were Herd. He had to protect them by breaking from them. As an Elodath, he feels it was the right choice. He has moved on and he hopes that they have too (no ill will on his part for the reactions of his family to his sudden distancing himself from them).
He has returned home from a series of sojourns overseas where he attempted to learn more about his new condition (and more about himself). During that time, he helped establish a pack (they were all younger than he, so when they had found a Totem and gained a territory of their own, he moved on)
