Florentine Code

The Florentine Code is the most popular system for showing clan membership for members of the first estate. This code assigns the following colors:

• Daeva - red and gold
• Gangrel - red and brown
• Mekhet - indigo and silver
• Nosferatu - black and green
• Ventrue - purple and gold

In some cities, influential bloodlines select their own colors or add a third color to show their distinction from the parent clan. This is far from universal, though.

Floral Code

The Victorian Floral Code Systems, also known as the language of flowers, has its roots throughout history. Using flowers to send a message dates to prehistoric times as symbolic use of flowers is mentioned in many ancient cultures including Chinese writings, Egyptian inscriptions, and in both Greek and Roman mythology.

During the 1600’s it became an actual "language" in Turkey where simple bouquets were used to send specific messages. Flowers were a statement of intentions, used to indicate acceptance, announce dismissal or even arrange a rendezvous. The language of flowers enabled lovers to pass messages without having to write or talk. The passing of messages via the floral code was then adopted by the French, and returned to England during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Lady Mary Wortley Montagu introduced the language of flowers to Europe after visiting a Turkish Court in Istanbul, in 1716. During her stay, she sent a Turkish love letter to England which interpreted the meanings of some plants, flowers, and spices. Flowers, she proposed, could convey statements and messages of love, romance and even anger in a refined manor.

In 1818 the first flower dictionary was written by Mme. Charlotte de la Tour entitled "Le Language des Fleurs". Her book became the standard for flower symbolism both in England and the United States
