At a Glance (Or a Stare, More Likely)

Mary is a remarkably beautiful woman of noticeably, but not greatly, above average height at 5'7." She is slim, but certainly not muscular, and fluctuates between skinny and 'skinny-fat' with the season, whim, and depending on how much of her diet at any given time is candy and wine coolers, as opposed to soup and liquor. Seeing beyond the Mask, however, shows that rather than hiding some terrible secret of horror or the like, she's just been given a slightly elfin appearance to compliment her base level of gorgeousness, as though her keeper stretched out the tips of her nose and ears, and tugged on her fingers to be even more delicate and graceful. Her arms and legs are spindly and weak in appearance, somewhat downplayed by the Mask, but any observer would be right in their assessment that upper body strength is not this one's strong suit. Her racial background isn't obvious, and everyone seems to think that her apparent ethnic ambiguity is like them, somehow, as if she's always half-related to the onlooker, and half 'other.' She is sick to death of being called 'exotic,' but the smile she holds firmly in place to the outside world would never reveal such inhospitable, unladylike emotions.

She's Been Around

Mostly Mary just speaks with people at parties and social events.

History Before Sacramento

Mary's memories of her pre-changeling life only include brief glimpses of her 4th birthday, the first night she went out for Halloween. These memories exclusively address, in shattered details, only that one night - herself, the wind, her mother - and do not grant nearly enough information to pin anything down. She was actually taken around age 19, but the images from fairy that overwhelm her concrete, personal memories only deal with a handful of bizarre birthday celebrations at the hands of the Prince of Lies, a True Fae who forcibly "adopted" her. Memories not grounded in her personal identity remain bizarrely intact, as she possesses a well educated grasp of vast knowledge, from literature to the occult, as well as a solid understanding of computers. She is a fully functional adult (or at least something like one) in every case except her own background, and thus relies on trivia in order to pass herself off as an ordinary young woman. Her adopted surname of Lee is merely an attempt to choose an identity vague enough that it won't contradict her long lost heritage, the pursuit of which consumes her. An alternately sanguine and melancholic soul, her yearning to find out who she was, and where her family is (or at least her mother), is her greatest passion outside of supernatural goings on. In her day to day life, she survives on that which most likely caught the attention of her Fae tormentor to begin with: She has a deep, subconscious attunement to others that sometimes leaves them inspired and elated. Infectious friendliness aside, she spends most of her time lost in her own laziness, whiling away the day with nothing to show for it. She has recently shaken off her depression enough to be more generally described as a lazy sort of mercurial.

Her forcibly adoptive father called her pumpkin, tied directly to a memory of her fourth birthday, on a Halloween night, upon which she trick-or-treated in a pumpkin costume. The name stuck, because it's one of the few things she has left to hang on to.

A Tidbit of Hidden Truth

She was actually born and named Mary on Halloween night, 1984. Apparently that date was begging for a True Fae, The Prince of Lies, to snatch her up. Her durance was comprised of being the 'inspiration' for a series of Arcadian theatrical productions, and no small amount of emotional and intellectual abuse. Her Keeper referred to her as his daughter and his muse, but their relationship was, of course, not even remotely healthy for her.

First Year of Sacramento

She's been settled in Sacramento now since September of 2011, during which time she's gotten a job bartending at The Forge. Aside from that, she's mostly just lent a hand wherever she can when not moping, sleeping, and eating in her room at The Four Seasons Hotel, leading to a noticeable weight gain. Mrs. Rosemary's cooking contributed significantly. That weight seems to have fallen off as easily as it showed up, resurfacing and once again fading with the seasonal fluctuations also noticeable in her mood and dress. Inconsistencies in nuance aside, what has remained consistent most of the time is her general uselessness to the community's higher aspirations; she mostly just serves and downs drinks, as per whether she's on or off the job at that moment, never mixing the two (except that one time). A benign symbiotic relationship, perhaps? She periodically seems to end up helping somebody or other.

Now

In the wake of the Four Seasons burning down, Mary shacked up with then boyfriend Llewelyn Jackson. She never broke it off, but he did leave town, fortunately leaving her with his house. When not working, socializing, or doing whatever else it is Mary does, she can be found there, usually sleeping, or drinking and watching cartoons and reruns. She has so far memorized several episodes of The Jeffersons and MASH, and can quote most late night cartoons.

She is a well recognized face of the Spring Court, and has gained some favor with Summer as well. Somebody has to pour the drinks and tend to the wounded once in a while.

Rumours

These may, or may not, be true.

  • Mary is probably the most powerful 'Ling in the hold, to the extent that she could be Spring Sovereign...
  • It's weird that she lives in her ex-boyfriend's house, right? The first one who skipped town?
