Circle of the Crone Haruspex |
Obsidian, aka Janus Washington, is a Ventrue Kindred of the Circle of the Crone Covenant played by Writer.
Description
Obsidian is an African American, about 5'4", 120 pounds with an apparent age of around 30. Her father was an African American cowboy from Texas, and her mother was a Haitian immigrant. As a vampire, she did not like how her undead existance affected her African skin, so she had her whole body tattooed black. Since this is not a natural black, this gives her an exotic appearance.
History
Obsidian's Sire was Invictus and Embraced her because she was a loyal ghoul for many years. She learned to respect the ways of the Invictus, understand the need for the hierarchy, and to honor those in power.
However, her Vodoun mentor killed her Sire and stole her away and 'convinced' her of the truth in the Circle of the Crone. She doesn't hate the Lancea, but she will never trust them. When the scandal was discovered, the mentor was hunted down and killed by the Lancea Sanctum. Obsidian was brought before the Prince of Dallas. She was able to convince the Prince that she was loyal to the hierarchy, though she distrusts the some of the Princes advisers. She did get away with her life, but she was exiled from the city.
Obsidian went to New Orleans first, where she met her retainers, Martin "Raven" Rodriguez and Maria "Rowan" Riley. These two young pagans believe in magic in its many forms. They have no problem with Obsidian's Vodoun roots, despite being more mainstream pagan. They do feel tempted by the darkness of blood magic, though, and Obsidian's hints and promises keep them intrigued and loyal.
When Katrina hit, Raven and Rowan were able to escape, but Obsidian stayed behind. She had no need to breath, and felt the threat would not endanger her. While the towns were evacuated, Obsidian was able to steal valuable jewelry and documents, and keep them safe through the worst of the storm. Obsidian herself was submerged under water and silt for a couple days, before she was able to dig her way out. In this time, she had insights and epiphanies that guided her out of New Orleans.
She used the valuables to negotiate with her contacts in the Circle of the Crone. They took what she had to offer and arranged for the purchase of a church in Sacramento, CA. Obsidian sent Rowan and Raven ahead to set up the church, and Obsidian joined them shortly after.
Current State of Affairs
Obsidian's mundane affairs include overseeing the Temple of the Waters of Life. Through the Temple, she has built up a small Herd of pagan women under the guise of a witches coven.
In Kindred Society, She was a Deputy to the Reeve.
She was also a valued member of the Circle of the Crone.
