This page will describe the infamous Scene in which Vae cuts her vein open during a First Aid session by the MedStars, and they are made to save her through mundane means only by Animus.

First Aid session

Miach was the first arrived at the museum, and was setting up the room with various tools he hoped would help enhance the First Aid course when others arrived. He was soon joined by Chambitas and then the other MedStars. The first round of introductions was going on when they were joined by Alfar and then Vae. Asked around by Alfar whether they were all doctors, both Vae and Chambitas answered by the negative while the Medstars presented their mundane jobs. Some tension seemed to be rising between the Arrows Vae and Alfar.

Miach then replied that it was a first-aid course, free of charge, open to all those who may be interested in learning how to save a life, to which the giant Four completed that if there were to be any price, it would be that the attendees used those skills to keep others alive. Making a round call to see if anyone else was joining them, Reverb chose that time to slip in hurriedly. With that last-minute addition, Miach then started the course proper.

The Acanthus teacher went through the very things to keep in mind to start with, like checking out for what caused the accident in the first place, then checking its breath and pulse for instance, and what to do in such cases, like CPR. At one point, he was stopped by Vae, who asked why someone with a handle on Life should apply first aid instead of just willworking the victim back to health. Four's answer was that twofold: you may either be out of Mana, for instance, or you may not want to perform Magic in front of a Sleeper's audience for instance. Miach then supported his Cabalmate's position, only adding that first-aid could be relayed by Sleepers too, so those in attendance could relay what they were learning tonight without restriction. Vae countered that if a life was at stake, Scouring was an option in her opinion. Four asked that she took care not to have open wounds, at least, if she was to try and treat someone. Miach offered to teach her Life if she wished, before resuming the course and splitting the present in pairs for CPR practice.

Chambitas branched off with Idun, Reverb with October. Meanwhile, Vae sent a text message, and started piling up Tass in the form of rocks on the table in front of her while Four seemed to be talking with her. It didn't go unnoticed, but noone overtly talked about it, instead starting the actual training on the dummies spread around the room while Miach gave further tips. The Obrimos snarked a bit Alfar, then rose silently, and put the rocks in a bag. It was the time that Animus and Kite chose to arrive with all haste.

Idun greeted them as if nothing special had happened, and then proceeded on with training Chambitas. Alfar and Miach did likewise, the latter even offering to bring them up to speed in the course if they were interested.

The Twist

While smiling, Vae informed Animus that they were learning to do healing without magic, and then asked Miach whether he had ever considered doing live training. After sending a word of warning to Animus, Vae slashed her wrist open, and collapsed on the floor, bleeding badly.

  • First round: Idun and Four were the closest and promptest, and immediatly set to apply first aid under the scrutiny of Animus and Kite. Miach didn't follow suit, and instead applied Willworking upon the fallen Obrimos, only to have his action canceled by Animus who rewinded time, and intimidated them out of using that option.

  • Second round: Idun and Four kept on steadying Vae's state.

  • Third round: With a little help from Animus to improve a tool's effect, Idun and Four finally managed to stabilize Vae.

Kite cast Healing Heart on her, healing her beyond what the Medstars had achieved through their mundane means, while Reverb returned into the room.

The Aftermath

The worst of the event over, the flustered mages started reaction each in their own ways. Reverb started packing his things to leave, while Four demanded an explanation from the female Obrimos and Idun checked her up closely.
Regaining consciousness, Vae started adjusting back, but Miach couldn't help but tease her, earning him a stern scolding from Four. The giant then extended his reprimand to Vae, demanding an explanation to her behaviour. Vae's answer was to ask for her bag, and ask Animus how they had done. Miach went and brought her the bag, keeping quiet until the former Hierarch had spoken. "They did well." was the judgement they were handed, even though Animus watched Miach for the briefest instant before answering.

Idun and Toby managed to calm down, while Miach and Four asked for an explanation and Reverb cursed. Vae took the Tass back into her Pattern, and then explained she would get Healed, by Animus or Kite. She expanded that she was glad they had stuck to their gun, and patched her through mundane means only. But they were to realize that Life was the greater tool, for mages like them. Neither Four nor Toby or Miach seem to agree with her behaviour, but the latter let it slide, and indicated that it was probably now time to pack and leave. Before leaving, Animus Healed the female Arrow some more.

Vae once again tried to explain what she had just done, her point clearly being that "Strengthening the Lie doesn’t save anyone". Idun suggested they postponed any further explaining after they had all recovered from the event, and Miach supported that idea. Hating the idea of losing touch with Vae, whom he deemed needed help, he offered her his card, asking her to "call him someday". The proud Obrimos let it fall into a puddle of blood, but didn't deny the offer. Since things were clearly settling down, people started taking their leave, each going back to their lives.
