Improvised spells are based on the mage’s enlightened will and knowledge of the Mysteries. A mage can cast improvised spells by dint of her Path; she needs no training from other mages (although training certainly helps!).

This is information about the mechanic. Improvised spellcasting uses a pool of Gnosis + Arcana.

This is a benefit of the mechanic. Any spell listed in the Arcanum descriptions can be cast as an improvised spell, provided a mage has the proper Arcanum dots. No additional experience point expenditure is required.

This is a benefit of the mechanic. Improvised spells can be cast silently and secretly, without the use of Rote Mudras.

This is a drawback of the mechanic. Improvised spells require an extra Mana surcharge on non-Ruling spells.

This is a drawback of the mechanic. Improvised spells leave a more easily Scrutinized resonance, requiring only a single success to learn the caster's identifying resonance (Identification)[1].

Spells and Rotes can be selectively filtered on the Spells drilldown page.
