The Reality War was a 'soft' reboot of Mage to redefine the setting and style of Stories being told when West took the reigns of Mage (again!).

• Several NPCs which were unnecessary or ill-conceived were removed; most significantly, the NPC Hierarch.
• The shared location of the Circle of Creation was restored after having been fractured over the preceding years. Various Mage locations were removed to facilitate this consolidation; most significantly, the Fillard Goldman Museum of the Mysterium and Bismarck Hotel of the Silver Ladder.
• A shift was made to episodic Stories with clearly defined goals and limits in consideration of the play-by-post format and character tenures.
• A deus ex machina was introduced to enable period pieces and adjustments to the current setting.
