"I've never been able to eat fried ice cream again since that awful day." -- Surviving Witness

An act of vandalism that tore open a healing wound resulted in an unexpected outcome when the community came together over the weekend to support the families wishing to honor their loved ones with a memorial.

In 1972, a jet airplane attempting to take off from Sacramento Executive Airport, crashed into a crowded Farrell’s ice cream parlor, killing 22 people and burning many others.

The memorial's plaque was discovered in the morning to be torn from it's mooring. Police are investigating.

"If this was a prank, it was in awfully poor taste."
