Firebringer watches in silence as they fly over the route, finally speaking after Eric's terse explanation. "If they fire onto a busy freeway, local authorities will come out of the woodwork. You believe your enemies are determined enough to accept that risk?"
The alpha's voice is flat, turning the question nearly into a statement. The caliber of expected resistance was relevant to planning, no matter what the man might think. Although the obvious paucity of trust was hardly surprising.

If they were bold enough to attack in such a matter...Slick did hope it was because of determination, and not desperation. Desperate enemies were the worst.
She did find herself pondering the buildings. The Home Depot...that one seemed as though it should be the least concerning of the lot. Those places tended to be more crowded, especially if the route were to take place during the right hours. Trying to set up any short of shot from there would likely be highly problematic, to say the least. But it had been the first they'd seen. Not a bad place, she supposed, to set up a sentry to warn those that could be waiting in buildings further down the line.
"Have you observed anything unusual going on at those buildings, at all? Or is it just that they seem like the best spots for ambushes and the like? Not that I'm doubting your suspicions."

They were all good questions but there was another obvious thing he needed to ask:
"Do your enemies have similar resources to you?"
For now it's all about planning to make the most efficient use of their abilities. If it's a war between a government agency and some sort of criminal conglomerate then they need to be circumspect about their help. Walking into the middle of a war between two such forces doesn't sound smart at all.

The helicopter banks and makes a wide u-turn around the Zigurrat, and begins heading back to McClellan.
"We have no idea what they're capable of, or the lengths that they're willing to go," he spoke again, voice crackling over the headsets.
"Every now and then we put spotters on those buildings. They're good vantage points to see if anyone is following or observing."
Eric lapses into silence, then speaks again, "The next courier is in four days."

Slick settles back in her seat, still idly watching out the window. But not observing nearly so carefully now that she'd already seen the route they'd be taking. Four days, should be plenty of time for them to figure out how they wanted to handle it going forward.
"If you don't know their capabilities...is that because they're a problem that's recently surfaced, they're very good at remaining secretive, or both?"

"A bit of both," Eric admitted.
"They're not terribly organized, and feel more like individual or small group attempts."
Irony, given his passengers?
"So it's hard to quantify."
In the distance, the flat expanse of McClellan could be seen.

Firebringer snorts. "As opposed to having government backing."
He didn't really expect a reply, but one never could tell.
"Will we have access to spotters' intel, or be on our own?"

|
|
Small groups...not unlike a werewolf pack. She wondered just how similar their tactics would be, how well they were versed acting in that kind of unit. Obviously they had some skill, if they were giving a government organization trouble. She wondered how they'd fare against werewolves, whose pack instinct ran far deeper than anything any of the herd could boast.
She wondered what kind of hunt that might turn into.

Daniel nods to himself, almost all his questions being answered:
"If it comes to that, what takes priority: keeping the goods intact or keeping them out of the enemy's hands?"
Now all that's left to do is to plan how they are going to protect the route. They aren't an army.

"You're on your own. Think of it as a double blind."
The helicopter tilts slightly, nose dipping, as it begins to pick up speed. Without the need to track a wheeled vehicle, it's free to make it's destination at speed.
Silvery hair tilts, and eyes move up to the mirror to look at Daniel. Their reflection is no less piercing than a direct gaze.
"That's an excellent question."
It was something between a statement of fact and a compliment.
"Better to keep the cargo intact. It's replaceable, but a recovery option would probably be more efficient."
