Some days in the cold case basement go by slow. This was not one on them. Between playing Mud and Blood 2 and constantly refreshing the ups tracking page, Gus had manage to seeming fold time and pass the day quickly.

He should have his new 5.5" V-Drive, 2 disc clutch in for his RX-7 this afternoon. This was not the first clutch he has rebuilt, but it was his first racing clutch. There were base joys to be had in working on one's own vehicle.

There was a follow up interview he needed to do, but the old lady was probably already enjoying the early bird special at some cafeteria. Best to put it off till the AM.

There's a knock on the door jamb.

It's Detective Joe.

He holds up a paper that looks suspiciously like an inter-office memo.

"You're the new liaison to the...," he glances at the paper, "Department of Homeland Security's Geosciences Division."

His tone is bored, but tinged with incredulity: how does this do-nothing motherfucker get the cake job?

Kordecki pauses for a few moments before answering as if he was finishing up something important on the computer. He alt-tabs out of mud and blood, and looks up at Joe.

"Hard work and go getter attitude never goes unpunished around here." Kordecki says flatly with a look of "thanks captain obvious for interrupting me"

He flashes a lame office smile, and looks back to his computer with the hopes that Joe takes the hint.

Joe waits a few moments, waits for the laugh from Korkecki.

As the seconds drag on, he leaves in silence.

Some things never change.

Gus always felt a little bad when he treated his coworkers that way. But the thought of getting immersed in office politics and such justified the distance Kordecki kept at work.

Hell this new liaison gig should not only look good for him, but should be a cake walk to boot.

In thirty minutes I can slide out of here without raising an eyebrow, Kordecki thought, as he alt tabbed back into his eleventh and final game of Mud and Blood 2.
