(Under Control) Broken In Half

Slick eyes the bars of light warily, disconcerted by the sudden display of...something. In the past that display might have caused her to fall back a step or two. When she was younger, newer to the supernatural; more naive in the dance of predator and prey, dominance and submission. Now? Now she stands her ground.

"The phones aren't of any importance to us, we're not going to fight you over them." Granted there was underlying tension over the desecration of Tur that probably could erupt into violence fairly easily...but they weren't going to start a fight over the phones. "But they're still on the other side of the Gauntlet, we didn't have time to prep them for a crossing." The use of the word Gauntlet, of terminology pertaining to the spirit world was intentional. He didn't even seem to recognize the First Tongue, nor did it seem that he'd ever heard the name for this place before. He didn't seem familiar with the place. Would any term pertaining to it draw any flicker of recognition?

And she found herself wondering...could he even cross between the worlds of his own accord?

"We heard a vehicle pulling up. It was a ways off, but...we didn't want to linger, just in case." She let a slight pressure build behind her eyes as she lets spirit and flesh align behind her eyes, peering back across the Gauntlet into the material world. Now that the phones actually possessed some level of importance it would probably be a good idea to check the scene again. If he couldn't get them back himself their ability to do so could potentially be used as leverage. But if the vehicle had contained someone who'd been heading to the area...well, that would complicate things.

Warily, Daniel looks at the three beams of light.

One for each of us, heh.

He definitely doesn't like the idea of fighting something that's not scared of them even if he can feel the familiar tides of Rage building on top of each other deep inside.

The asian man takes on a slightly surprised look.

"Oh, I hope I didn't give you the impression we were going to fight over them," he says.

It's not a lie. He's completely willing, he just didn't want to give that impression.

If Chantay's paying attention, the term 'Gauntlet' doesn't faze him.

"Maybe we can come to an arrangement? Is there something I could do for you in return for your bringing me the phones?"

Across the Gauntlet, Chantay notices a man inspecting the body and beginning to canvas the area.

[Firebringer]

Tedious. Back-and-forth, jockying for position. The banter might be verbal, but that didn't make it any less a hunt.

Just, at the moment, not of the sort he wished he could have.

With a low growl, Firebringer resumes pacing, intentionally placing the intruder between himself and Chantay.

An urge, to leap on the man, and feast on his flesh. The idea seems somehow less unpalatable than it once was. Perhaps that should have been worrying.

Finding precious little else of note, Thao decides to pocket some of the cellphones lying around the dead man. Can't collect anythin' else t' bring back t' Kordecki. Might as well see iffen he'll be interested in one o' these ol' things. He furrows his brow and tries to come up with a smart way to pick up the phones without leaving fingerprints.

At last, he comes up with a solution.

God, this is stupid.

He stops to take off his left shoe, slips off the sock on his foot, and then puts on and reties his shoe. Then, he slips his hand into the sock to make a sock-glove to pick up three of the cellphones at random. He secures each phone within his jacket pocket by turning the glove-sock inside out so that the cellphones are on the inside of the sock. It doesn't do much in the way of preventing sweat and DNA samples from sticking to the cellphones, but at least Thao is able to prevent his own finger prints from sticking to the cellphones.

And to be honest, Thao finds his sense of reason somewhat dulled by all these recent events.

Please note that Thao is still conducting his Investigation roll. The events in the Hisil have only taken a minute or two, during which Thao was declared to be making a Perception check (Instant Action), a Crime Scene Investigation (Extended Action), and Post Mortem (Extended Action). He's a bit busy at the moment

So it seemed as though he couldn't get the phones by himself, at least not easily. That or he didn't want to. She didn't particularly care either way. The important part was simply that he'd prefer them to, which as well within their capabilities, and was willing to offer something in return.

"Would you be able to fix," she gestures towards the spiritual corruption spreading outwards from the body, "that? I think having the sanctity of this place restored would help put us all at ease." Given that his capabilities were still largely unknown it at least seemed possible, especially since he'd seemed to recognize the term Gauntlet. So he wasn't completely clueless about the spirit world, probably. And it would save them a bit of a hassle.

Though she seems to be looking...elsewhere, for a few seconds as she speaks. Her eyes trained on what appears to be empty air. Then she looks to both her fellow wolves, and the interloper. Her next words a statement intended for all of them. "There's a man examining the scene, back in the physical world."

Daniel watches both the man and Firebringer warily. Too many claw-happy people in one place and those beams of light remind him of that movie he once saw with people throwing lightswords or something. It didn't end well for the people the things were thrown at. It is then that Chantay makes her comment:

<<One Herd?>>, - either someone really dumb poking their nose where it doesn't belong or something is amiss.

"A man?"

The question was a little too intense to be idle curiosity. Closing his eyes for a moment, he takes a moment for thought.

"Our interests are... aligned," he answers Chantay. "I will not lie to you -- I cannot remove that," he continues, mirroring her gesture toward the blight. "But it is caused by those phones. Return them to me, and I will take them. It will fade from this place."

Every word was the truth -- half of lifetime of lying to mages had given him a knack for such things. Weren't the best deceptions made with truth? The words were more rushed than those before. A new urgency, with this unknown variable across the Gauntlet.
