Making herself settled, Jo moved the van into some cover, not really looking towards the others to begin with - not more than a little flash now and then to check line of sight towards the others. Once she found a place, she settled in, pulled out a blanket that might help blend her into the foliage a little more, and began to set herself up... though getting onto the van was a little more painful than planned.

Sam took a deep breath, and instead of answering Alistair he enclosed the padlock in both hands and concentrated. He had only practiced this technique before, and this was a far cry from a controlled environment in Milan.

Tal's eyes were on the road and the woods, not the lock in Sam's hands.

The smell of something trickled in Samael's nose, burning down his throat. It wasn't sulfur... but it seemed like a half remembered memory of his time in Milan. The moment passed and the scent with it, leaving his companions none the wiser... The lock in Samael's hand was now friable, puckered under intense heat. A strike with Samael's weapon could shatter the lock, leaving the door open and their associate that much closer to freedom. Tick tock... tick tock... The seconds tick by. Jodie had experienced a terrifying few seconds with these monsters. What had Diane experienced in the hour that she had been alone here?

Sam smashed the lock with the butt of his knife.

    "Alright people, let's move."

He stepped aside with a grip on the handle of the door, ready to pull it aside as soon as Alistair and Tal were ready to make their move.

"We've got everything covered out here. You two do what you do best and save her!"

The lock cracks under the blow, falling to the dirt with a heavy thud. The steel door looks old and sturdy, looking as though it could withstand a siege. How often was this door used? It would likely make a heck of a creak when opened.

Jodie, give me a perception roll, please. Any one else who was looking around while Sam was working the lock can make a perception roll.

The sounds of isolation press in on all sides. There are no sounds of passing cars and no distant traffic noises. You are alone here. Cut off. Nothing bends a blade of grass around you, not even an animal. Alistair's goggles pick up on distant animal activity... a scampering blip of heat, a larger and faster blurb that could be a dog some yards away.

    Descent

Stairs descend into shadow, with a battery-powered light dangling from a hook mounted in the ceiling, just at the top of the stairs. Rusty patches of water stain spread from hairline cracks in the walls, and the sound of dripping echoes faintly in the distance. The small battery-powered lantern overhead does nothing to dispel the sour sensation here: sour air, sour feelings, sour memories. The condensation leaks slowly down the walls, as though the water itself is struggling to sink its grip in deeply enough to tear the place up by the roots. The distant dripping is omnipresent, and other, stranger sounds lurk just on the edge of perception.

You half-expect to hear sobs of despair or cries for help, but instead there is only the dripping and that unpleasant feeling of desperation. The barking of dogs echoes up from the depths of the place.Dogs await you down in the shadowy depths. They are likely the signatures that you read. Alistair realizes. Yet if this is the place where the girls are brought... where is Diane? Are you too late? Is there a clue down stairs, past the waiting dogs?
