As Sam properly braces himself, Tal's hand descends on the door knob.
"Here we go." She states as she throws the lock and sets her shoulder to the door. The response is immediate - with a deep bellowing bark, the dogs hurl themselves at the door. The door shudders. Alistair can see that the door remains four inches open. Angling his head, he can see two ferocious and massively muscled dogs jockeying for position at the door. The same breed as the others. These dogs seem just as single minded as the others - bent on ripping. A line of saliva drips from the mouth of the closest one as it barrels into the door.

The battle began. The pops of his silencers followed as the first dog slammed into the door. He was positioned just so to allow him to fire through the crack while remaining safe.

Or was it dog? Could you spare a moment to listen carefully to decide if you were only hearing one animal? Samael's brain was not prepared for the physical labor of holding this door, although his mind conjured up some obscured fact from long ago... he wasn't entirely sure when he had read this excerpt.. Dogs are pack-oriented carnivores that
are capable of hunting and killing prey many times their size through teamwork and persistence...

Tal set her shoulder against the door, pressing her foot against the side of the wall for leverage. It would have been a great idea. Yet this dark cavernous gulag hid the clump of moldering leaves that caused Tal's foot to slip. She hastily threw herself back against the door, but she had lost contact with the door for several seconds. Was Samael able to hold the door?

Bracing the door for 1 success

Sam poured himself into his task, knowing that if the dogs got to Alistair their chances of survival were taking a nose dive. The scholar hoped that it would be enough, and once again, through gritted teeth, he swore that he was going to use his off-time to put on some muscle mass.

Whereas his first two shots had been glancing blows, Alistair got the pattern of the dog's attack down for the second, firing two shots in quick succession that cored the creature through the crack to messy, deadly affect.

Tal presses her shoulder against the door, wincing with the effort. As the pops sounded of gun shots, both Samael and Tal slide forward as the resistance against the door fades to nothing. The door creaks shut. Silence descends over the gulug. The omnipresent barking and snarling that had been echoing about and rattling your brains has faded to nothing. The dogs were dead! Tal cautiously opened the door and peeked inside. After a beat, she opened the door until it knocked into the concrete block.

"Can you move that?" Tal requests.

She leans with her eye against the crack and pulls out the flashlight that had been in Diane's car. She turns it on and aims it through the crack, the beam of light cutting through a dust filled dark room. Whatever she saw made her face drawn and grim. Tal steps away from the door, lowering the beam of light.

"It's where they held the girls." She said heavily. "It looks bad."

Sam's lips pulled back into a grimace as he took in the scene.

This is just sick... It didn't take much more than that thought to decide that if he came across the head asshole of this compound, the monster would have to die.

Sam's first glance around the room reveals surface observations - the floor was concrete. In the middle of the room was something... some sort of structure. It wasn't clear from the doorway what it was. A dark shape beside it added to the general feeling of dread, but exactly what composed it was not fully revealed.

... He was talking to himself... wasn't he?

... the man was losing it. Or he was talking to that whispering voice-y thing.

... it wasn't like she'd lost it, after all, and she'd tried to speak to the damn thing...

She shouldn't take a shot, and she wasn't going to when he was all she could see, acting crazy though he might be. That didn't stop her from sending a quick text Samael Milton ... voice to text recognition software. Man she loved her phone, because she wasn't taking her eyes off that man.

"Hey Sam, I found a path that looks like it's leading off back towards the hotel out here. MacGreuder's off that way and there's something sorta odd. I dunno how to explain it other than being like the way the road looks when it's super hot and the heat is radiating off of it. Sorta shimmery, you know? I think he's talking to himself. I'm not leaving position, but I did want to give you the heads up."

Of course, not checking that it translated properly, the message likely came out:

"Hay Sam I found a bath that looks like it's bleeding off back towers the hotel out here. Magruder's off that way in there some things to all odd. I don't know how to explain it other than being like the way the road looks when its super hot and heat is radiating off of it. British Emergy you know? I think he's talking to himself. I'm not leaving position but I did want to give you the heads up."

... hey. Sacrifices had to be made. As far as she knew the message had come across loud and clear!

Glancing around the Gulag, Samael, Tal and Alistair were struck by the despair and hopelessness of the gulag. Faint etchings on the floor looked like they could have been made with fingernails. There was some thing in the center of the room, farther than you could see in the gloom. The beam flashes over it and you realize that it is a concrete block. Two sets of manacles are drilled into the block, creating a prison no woman could escape from. Half of a human tooth lays next to a small, rust-colored stain on one edge of the concrete block Do you want to see horrors inside of the gulag? There was no sounds and no sign of a living woman in this gulag Yet if these faint markings on the ground were messages, perhaps there was something vital on these floors. Stains of blood, sweat, and more are ground into the rough, cold floor. The stain had left an impression of a woman's body lying in a fetal position beside the block.

I need to know what Samael and Alistair are doing inside the Gulag. You dispatched of the attackers and now you can investigate!
