What do you call two Warlocks meeting for the first time? Rails doesn't know. But it's rarely fun.
Still, he's new in town. Gotta make the rounds.
So here he is, waiting for Crystal to pick up the phone.
*Ring Ring*
Ever since he had taken the duties of a Councilor he was kinda obliged to answer calls from unknown numbers. 9 out of 10 were men he had taken home and since then discarded, but sometimes it was important to pick up the phone.
Who knew what this call would bring?
"Heya, how can I help you?"
Heya?
Fuck.
Why's it gotta be Heya?
"Um, yeah. This Chris?"
Definitely not the voice of one of Crystal's recent conquests. Not one he remembers, anyway.
"Yeah, that's me. And you are..?"
"Lanny." There's a pause. "Just got into town. Somebody told me I should look you up. Said we have shared interests."
Night terrors. Crippling guilt. Just desserts. Shit like that.
"Was hoping we could hook up. Talk shop."
Rails is aware that he's being vague. He likes it that way.
"You had me at hooking up." Although he didn't want to dip his pen in the company ink. Or something like that. "Would you be okay with dropping by my place? It's at [address]. Maybe [date]?"
"Oh? Ha." It's not really a laugh. More like he says the syllable 'ha' to acknowledge the joke.
"Your place?" Rails echoes. Running through some calculations in his head.
Could be a trap. At the same time, even if it is, he'll lay eyes on this guy's place. Valuable information.
Just have to risk it. There can be some preemptive mitigation.
"Yeah, alright. Sounds good."
"All right, see you then."
I'll open the scene as soon as I can.
"Later." The line goes dead. Rails has disconnected.
Awesome!
