Wayland chuckled to himself with Avis' refusal of the position. She would have been a good candidate but it didn't surprise him at all. Its hard to be in a position of service when you were in charge, and the Order, as Wayland did, believed in the benefits of Service.

"If things are like, about to go south, or past I guess, I'd like to ask the Councillor's permission to have all of the solitare mages to form a temporary cabal, you know, until we all either decide to stay together or form permanent cabals. You know, for everyone's safety in the mean time."

"There's also like, some logistical problems we still gotta work out yo. Like, time appropriate clothes, and how do we actually sink the ship?" With a brain-flash, he pulls out his iPhone and does a quick google search on 'how did the titanic sink'. "Well, according to the internets, April fourteen was when the ship hit the iceberg, after having received six warnings of sea ice, and it was travelling at near full speed, so the thing couldn't turn fast enough to avoid the iceberg just before midnight." Wayland takes a screen shot of the info, cause there's no internet in 1912 bro. "The glancing blow breached five of the sixteen compartments, and it had been designed to lose four and still float."

Putting his phone away, he looks at the others. "We know the Seers have somehow engineered things so the ship doesnt sink. So, I'm guessin' we need to ensure that the warnings are ignored, the ship's travellin' at full speed, and at least five compartments breach yeah?"

There was also another consideration. "Ahh, seein' as we know there are gonna be Seers there, I can help hide our Aura's to try and blend in. Ya know, so we dont give off that, 'New Mage smell'."

"Honestly," Avis interrupted, "I think Fisher is right. You're all being callous. And I know it's not because you're dickbags, but because that makes it easier to process and rationalize the trial that is before us. I understand that, and I understand that we will have to make sacrifices that hurt, but we all need to remember that justification is not the same thing as Justice.

"So consider this: yes, we have to sink the ship. Yes, we have to ensure that the Seer's artifacts are lost in the sea, but that doesn't mean we can't save more lives than while we do it. Sure, that could change things, but guess what? Things have already changed! Don't we all have memories of lives we never lead? Aren't we already faced with changing a shift in reality itself?

"I don't think we can avoid changing the past,"
she continued."I think our presence there will already irrevocably upset things. And, if it's fated, and we actually did travel back in time to sink the original titanic, and this isn't some massive deviation, then it won't matter. So I say you might as well try to save people. For all you know, you might accidentally kill someone meant to survive, so why not do what you can to live up to the ideals of the Awakened nation even while we fight this War?"

"Thanks uh..." Tuesday trails off when Arthur hands her his coffee. "Dude...?" she figured it would work, not knowing his name. Pulling another hand out from her jacket pocket, popping the lid off it, and shoves it where her hand once was, then she holds the cup with both hands. Staring into it's caffeinated depths, Tuesday looks up where the others are still arguing. The dick measuring wasn't going to help her pear past the coffee and see Truth.

"These artifacts need to go ka-blamo right?" she asks rhetorically, "Sooo why don't we figure out how to do that, and play everything by ear?" the Enchantress asks, it wasn't like doing so was a new concept to Tuesday. "It's all well and good saying 'yeah we'll sink the ship and not change the TimeLines', or 'Let's save all the peoples' but we don't know what the fuck we're up against wasn't there a saying about plans and contact with the enemy?" Then she nods at Avis, the Counselor had good points. "Like yeah...the ship sinks, that's probably a Fixed point and probably needs a Moros or two to Matter up the integrity of the ship to make sure the right parts fill with water, but everything else...completely Butterfly Effect. We're gonna be there Seers are gonna be there...shits gonna get fucked. We just need to figure out more logistics and...whatever." she trails off with a shrug. "And for cloths...couldn't someone with enough Matter...uh-Matter us up some ye-old timey cloths or something for when we get there....?"

"Now though..." Tuesday returns her attentions to her borrowed coffee. Twisting her Will she tries to form the imago within her mind for the spell, but it fails to take shape. Grunting under her breath she tries again. Butterfly wings flap and...there...a slight smirk curls her lip as images-misshapen at first begin to slowly shape themselves, giving an answer Time saw fit to give her.

Before the Enchantress tells the others what she'd glimpsed, she raises her eyes from the coffee and asks, "So-uh Cabals...is that like a prerequisite for living here?"

Varyx's nimbus is subtle - she still looks more or less like herself, but there's something about her, something difficult to put your finger on... She's always been beautiful, but it's magnified and somehow terrible. Something so lovely can't be human, and it gives the people around her the impression that maybe she doesn't have any humanity, either.

Varyx nodded to Wayland. She had said, at the last Consilium, that she was going to put together such a cabal herself, but with the slippery nature of how time had passed since then, she wasn't entirely certain what had happened to that. She'd been planning it, but planning to hold it somewhere else... somewhere she couldn't remember. And the people invited were going to be different. Wayland was still a member of Steel Phoenix, back then, because Steel Phoenix had still existed back then. "Perhaps we should hold a gathering of the new mages after this meeting, if everyone agrees."

She twitched at Avis' words. She was right, of course, and more, Varyx hadn't meant anything different from what her Councillor had said. But what she meant didn't matter in the face of her actual words, which had, in all fairness, amounted to "Fuck the Sleepers, let's drown 'em all."

"You're right, of course," Varyx responded, nodding to Avis. "My only concern is passion for doing the right thing turning into a split second decision to save a life over the destruction of the artifacts. Saving lives is a worthy goal - but it must be a secondary goal. And as long as we can ensure that we remember that when we're forced to make that decision, then absolutely. I agree."

Then, to Tuesday's question about cabals, she answered, "Yes, you must be a member of a cabal in order to be officially recognized by the Consilium." A pause. "Although, to tell the truth, I'm not certain whether or not that continues to be true. It's one of those... fuzzy memories, for me. Regardless, even if it's not true here and now, I suggest we maintain such a rule in order to push lone mages into groups. Sacramento is too dangerous to encourage anyone to be operating alone."

I'm not sure if that cabal rule was a Casitive thing specifically, and if we wanna keep it or not. West ?

July wasn't going to argue the logistics of time travel and how time worked. It was one of those things that logically he had no true concept of because he wasn't a studied man and never researched the science of it all. All he knew is what his understanding of the Arcana itself taught him. Since science was really part of The Lie, maybe a mage could never truly understand how Time worked unless they studied the Arcana. But that was all beside the point. "So, stepping away from the debate about if extra people should be saved, it seems we're almost all in agreement that the ship must sink, the artifacts must be destroyed or lost at sea, and we're gonna have to get new clothes," he added with a smirk, looking to Wayland who had brought up the point.

"I think as long as we're all on the same page about those aspects, then we can figure the 'saving extra lives' angle later. But I will say, if you're worried about people who are supposed to live dying, maybe check your family tree to make sure one of those people aren't your relatives. Don't want to end up as one of the people no longer existing." It seemed the issue who how exactly the government would work was taking a back seat, though in a way July was fine with that. He was more interested in stopping the Seers than arguing for hours over the exact details of the government. Made him glad he wasn't nominated by anyone.

The 'cabal rule' is part of the formal Charter. However, if some people choose to not remember it/it not exist, and want to re-work it (in another thread/later date :P ) -- feel free!

The sweet, fragrant smells of roses mixed with lilacs emanate from her as she casts magic. The scent intensifies, bordering on intoxicating, when Life magic is cast. When Aurora casts Vulgar magic, the scent takes a nasty turn, to the putrid, nauseating odor of a rotting corpse. The stronger the magic, the more those around want to retch at the smell.

These people had actually lost their minds!

“No Awakened has the right to play God nor alter human destiny. What has happened is what was destined to happen. We don’t know the reason for their Fate, but changing it will have unseen consequences that we cannot predict. What is destined to be will be, no matter what you do. Changing someones destiny is possible, but if they are destined to die they will die. It may not be on that day, but they will. The universe always finds a way to right itself. Our dreams showed a different reality, tell me, how do you know that isn’t what will happen if we ‘save’ these lives? You’re talking about altering the Tapestry of a major historic event. Their deaths are tragic, yes, but death is a part of life and one we need to accept. So lets focus on whatever we are supposed to find on that date and take care of it.” This was starting to piss her off. And if Avis or anyone else thinks this Enchantress is going to lend her magic they have another thing coming. She would not sit by and watch destiny and history changed.

Focus changes, “Are we coming to agreement that we are going with Councilors for the Government? If so, then perhaps they need to get together and get things settled. Cause everyone throwing out plans and ideas is great, but we need a ruling Council to get things moving forward.”

    Strix's Avatar

    Strix

Tuesdays's question and the reply given for it made Strix hum, considering he currently wasn't in any cabal, either, just as he figured Tuesday not to be. Wayland's request to gather the mages currently not in one to form a temporary cabal was one solution, at least until they dealt with the Titanic situation. Then, it was either remaining in this cabal, or joining any other that existed within the city to be recognized.

Unless the council ruled this not to be a necessity later on.

Either way, Strix didn't really feel any guilt for the position he followed, it hadn't been about sleepers or not sleepers for him. For all they knew there might even been a few mages among the people on the Titanic, as well, who just hadn't been able to change anything about it or were among the survivors because of their magic. Awakened or not awakened, they were already dead and should remain so.

Besides, stopping the Seers from succeeding was far too important. At least in his nightmare it looked a lot like they won — which just can't happen.

Never thought he'd ever go and agree with Churchill on anything.

It didn't make the debate run in circles and slowly a dying horse any less, though. Ways to deal with the sinking could be considered later, he supposed, maybe when minds have been wrapped around what they had to do without trying to ruin the timeline in some way. There were probably a few ways to make sure the ship would end up sinking, through magical or non-magical means, which didn't need to be mentioned now.

When Faye spoke, Strix looked over to her. "Well, from those who spoke up about it, most seemed to favor the Council option over anything else." Given how this little meeting is going for now, it might not be such a bad idea to give people something familiar to cling to. "Might as well go with it so we can get things done, hm? Three weeks are over more quickly than you think." While he didn't necessary change his mind or vote, he was in favor of moving things on and getting them done.
