Cross picks up after one ring. It's clear he's been waiting for Ale's call.
"What happened? You need me?"
No greeting. Just straight to business. The concern is audible in his normally emotionless voice.
Wow, wait by your phone much? She thinks.
"The boss wants Longstreet here, at headquarters." with Brood kicking around, she didn't trust the phone completely. "That's the only news I have. Alice is here, nothing else was said about when she would be returning to work." she was all business too, and veiled talk. But she felt it important he knew what she knew.
Cross is silent as he considers this new information.
Alice to be kept at the Nox. And now Longstreet as well. Half the number of his family on ice where he can't reach them. Alice, his love. Longstreet, his Bishop and brother. Both, out of his hands.
Still, Cross knows he can't say no. And to make this difficult might cause problems for his entire family, asleep and awake.
Quickly, he comes to a decision: "Fine. I'll bring him over." Wouldn't want the Reeve getting lost in the catacombs.
Her and Cross really needed to sit down and hash things out. She didn't know what level of anger he was housing towards her, and she'd rather get it out in the open than have it bite them in the ass on the battle field.
"Thank you." she replies, "I'd also like to sit down and talk when you're not too busy. We have to figure our battle plan, and there are other things to discuss."
She puts down Alice, all casual, doesn't even give him a chance to see the Doll before bringing her to the Nox, demands that Longstreet be delivered there as well, and now she's inviting him to a sit-down? Cross wants to scream. Tell the Reeve to go fuck herself. To deal with the Brood on her own. To watch her fucking back.
But he doesn't. No. He will not give in to the Beast's desire for revenge. He'd rather see justice served. And so he remains silent for a moment, gritting his teeth before answering, voice tight:
"Yes. That sounds right. Let me handle Longstreet and then I'll be in touch about a meeting. Have a good night."
With that, if the Reeve has nothing more to add, the Burned Man will hang up.
