Updating the Reeve

[Otto Schneider]

Ocassionally peering around the corner to make sure the officers on duty weren't heading in his direction, Otto started to dial the number he had to contact Reeve Kingsley .

As soon as it connected, Otto spoke in as calm a tone as he could muster. "Good evening. It's Otto, wanted to give you an update about the errands I was running... I'm nearby Cedar Grove Park."

[Helen Kingsley]

Helen takes the call, but as Otto knows who he#s been calling, she doesn't introduce herself, but gets straight to the point.

"Ah, nice. How's that going ? Anything you need ?"

[Otto Schneider]

"About that..." Otto hazarded another glance in the direction of the park before ducking his head back. Was it his imagination or was that same cop looking in his direction?

"I had some success on my personal project, coming up with a story for our amateur moviemakers. I wanted to see if I could find any clues at the park but there are cops all over the place. Real aggressive. Won't say anything about what happened. I could try to... persuade someone to open up but figured I should call and check in before doing anything else."

"I see."

Otto can almost hear the gears over Helen's head turn over the phone. One of the things she hates about this job. Making calls without the bigger picture.

"Okay, from where you're at right now, what does your gut say about going persuasive on one or several of those guys ? Do you think you can reasonably pull it off and the results may be worth the effort or is it a bit more dodgy and you'd like me to talk you into or out of something ?"

Otto mulled over the situation for a moment. Not the time for bravado.

"Frankly, I think there's something of value to be learned. The officer said to check the news but I'm sure that won't be the whole story. I can probably squeeze a bit of information from someone, but I know the Prince doesn't want city employees roughed up. Still doable, but I don't want to ruffle feathers. Does the Domain have an in with the local precinct, a name I can drop?"

"None that I know of." A slight pause. "Maybe there's other folks than law enforcement who have noticed something ? Your call, if you don't like your chances leave it for now and we'll work from there. Please send a report as soon as you are able."

Discretion is the better part of valor, as the idiom goes. There was no benefit in playing the hero here. At best, Otto risked the Prince's wrath in obtaining early access to information that he could learn later without the same degree of hassle. "I think that I will pull back this evening. I will submit a more formal report as you desire, Reeve Kingsley." It didn't necessarily sit right with the Priest to abandon his probing into the park incident, but he knew what it meant to cut your losses and regroup. Perhaps a more thorough investigation could commence with more Kindred at hand. "Good evening." With a sigh he bid the Reeve farewell and ended the call, slowly wandering towards his apartment.
