As her vision came back, the dozen eyes looked around in an attempt of catching a glimpse of her friends...or enemies. However, all they could see was the growing inferno from the explosion at the bunker. I hope they made out, she thought to herself in reference to those they had left behind in the bunker, and the two Sworn that she had been asked to protect.
Had she failed in her task? She certainly wouldn't be able to forgive herself if that had been Dog's last request, and she had managed to fail him. Dammit! But what could she do? There were no allies or enemies in sight, and someone had to inform the Prince as to Erika's treachery. Besides, if all her fellow Dragons had fallen prey to the fire or the diablerist, she would need to avenge them. Being consumed by the quickly spreading flames wouldn't help her achieve such a goal, so the only option she had was to retreat to safety.
And just like that, the kettle of hawks flew away from the fire, seeking solace in what was now a silent night.
