The moment to witness the execution of Staley had arrived, and Adam would have been lying had he tried to make out he was not the least bit uncomfortable. It was not the fact that there would be an execution. There had been a crime, punishment was necessary, and being Kindred there were very few options of how to punish a guilty party when the crime had been so terrible.
The Daeva could feel a little prickling sensation at the back of his neck, and he raised a hand to rub it away. He could stand tall, and act his usual affable self, but the Beast did not really care about bravado.
The flames were not against him - not like the infernal heat of the basement weeks ago, beneath the comic book shop, trapped, burning, his Requiem in danger of ending.
Good Lord, the doors are locked... What if the fire becomes uncontrollable?
They could hardly call the fire brigade should an inferno explode around them. Adam blinked, warm brown eyes widening as the fire rose up around Staley. Coherent thought slipped away, and the Daeva hurriedly stepped backward.
In the comfort of his own mind, Adam only surreptitiously slipped away from Swift, to 'catch a spot of fresh air', as his father might have said.
In reality, Adam's resolve shattered into a thousand melting pieces and he ran toward the door like a man possessed. Which in a way, he was - by a frenzying Beast that screamed madly, get me the Hell out of here!
