After work one afternoon, on a day not long after the afternoon spent at the Hostel, Chief decides to drive by Discovery Park and take a look. He had considered calling Spade, or Pandora maybe, but had decided against it. Sometimes it was just nice to roll lone-wolf style.
He pulls up in the parking area in his van and shuts it off. Climbing out, he surreptitiously tucks a pistol into the back of his pants and deposits a spare clip into each front pocket before pulling his sweater down over his waistline and closing up the vehicle.
He follows a sidewalk into the small riverside park, following the path down to the edge of the river. Once there he lights up a cigarette.
He didn't know what he expected to find here. Maybe just a walk in the park on a pleasant afternoon. The place had been marked for some reason. Could be there was something significant going on. Stranger things had happened. Awakening, for instance.
The Sybil looks around the park, uninterested. Perhaps once, something important was going to happen... or did happen... but those threads are set in the tapestry, snug, and long since woven. Some stones here and there have traces of something about them, but it's hazy and indistinct.
Chief wanders around the park, nearly as uninterested as the Sybil. He ashes out the cigarette and disposes of it in a trashcan before catching a glimpse of one of the stones. There was something about them, but it was almost too faint to register.
Walking over to one he picks it up and looks at it before placing it in his pocket to take back to the others. Then he walks around, counting the stones that registered something, looked at them, eventually found himself standing over to one that was a bit bigger than most of them - about the size of his fist - and he bends down and picks it up.
Some magic existence. He coulda walked around collecting rocks without all the Awakening business. He holds the rock up, looking it over. "What are you hiding, rock?" He mumbles to the stone in his hand.
Taking the stone over to a bench he sits there, turning the stone over in his hand, regarding it with Mage Sight for a while. The Resonance is there, cloudy and opaque and completely unreadable. He drops the stone onto the ground before the bench and sits there a while, having another cigarette. Discovery had yielded no discoveries. Just a bunch of weird rocks, Chief guessed that it was better than nothing.
Standing up he stretches and begins to walk back to his van.
On his way out of the park Chief turns, fingering the rock in his pocket. Something happened here. Not long ago, but long enough for things to have returned much to the way they were.
Chief bends Time, forming an Image in his head and setting it free with Mana. He had decided on a night in Spring, a few hours after dark. The weather in Sacramento had been beautiful in late April, that is when the wildfires weren't burning, and the Park would have seen a lot of activity morning noon and night. It was a long shot, but Chief believed in luck.
When the vision ends Chief shrugs, mumbling incoherently to himself. It was about what he had expected. He felt like there was definitely something to learn from this place, but it probably wasn't going to come to him just by poking around in Time. He would tell Spade and Pandora about it, show them the rock. Maybe they'd have some bright ideas.
