Pipeworks: Fool's Climb

[Circe]

Sacramento Pipeworks is a premier climbing and fitness gym in the city. Between towering rope walls, bouldering climbs, and various other options it is a great place for climbers wishing to stretch their skills or introduce their next generation to the sport safely.


Climbing harnesses with safety lines lessened the risks greatly, more so than the padded floors. This didn't mean that the Summer Queen of Sacramento hadn't had a problem with the establishment.


It wasn't the safety gear, she'd know she'd need it. Nor was it pointing out she'd be having a friend coach her. This left more staff to manage the urchins and Circe signed the forms for this anyway. No. It had been the dress code.


Circe initially had sought some extra padding, just in case. Fortunately she'd called ahead and knew that her skin suits were an absolute no on the dress code. The leather jacket she had instead? Valid, but too thick to work with the harness. The tube top under it however had been against dress code. Too much risk for safety harness chaffing and other reasons.


So, Circe had a to buy an XL Pipeworks T-shirt to wear over it so she could get strapped into the harness. Not that she needed that size, but there were some complaints about the yoga pants too. She'd have to make a joke about straps without leather being abnormal. Now, it was a matter of awaiting her favorite Spring Beast.


She wanders how Sonnie Wu will be dressed amongst the mundies.

[Sonnie Wu]

Sonnie was dressed for some rowdy athletic behavior. Jean shorts, sneakers, and a green hoodie. She knew Pipeworks pretty well, having come here often over the last three years. It was a good place to play exercise, especially during the winter.

"Well, aren't we in the spirit of the location?" she grinned, seeing Circe wearing the business' t-shirt. "Are we ready for some ADVENTURE?"

[Circe]

Cheers! Not from Circe, but from some kids. Sonnie was clearly a recognized regular here. From Circe she gets a wink and a smirk, "Aaand I am up ta the dress code now. Apparently leather jackets are a no-no for these harnesses," she tugs on the harness.


"Ya'd think leather and straps was a good combo. Color me surprised," she waves her hands wide looking at Sonja. "But totally ready. Even have enough pain killers ta keep ya good when ya hurt yerself by laughing too hard at my fails."


Circe had no illusions of how badly this was going to go for her. "So, what is first step ta me being in pain?"

"Eh, they probably don't wanna be responsible for ruining an expensive leather outfit. Gym clothes are preferred." Sonnie seems perfectly comfortable in Pipeworks. It's obviously someplace she's spent a lot of time.

"Uh," she shrugged and looked around, then gestured at the beginner's parkour course. "Go run that." The Beast smirked, "I'll be honest. I spend all day teaching 10-year-olds kung fu, and that's exhausting. So I'm not gonna be really hands-on here. I'm getting a smoothie from the juice bar, and I'll shout encouragement to you."

And the innuendo went over Sonja's head. She'd need to work on her reflexes, better for catching things.


Circe looks at said course provided. "Heh, looks like an obstacle course," the Larcenist states the obvious. Then smirks at Sonja, "Ya should'a got a drill sergeant hat. Buut okay. I'll take water, thanks."


Circe doesn't allow for discussion as she salutes the Beast and tries to run the course. Tries.

Circe isn't going with the flow. More akin to someone drunkenly trying to shoulder obstacles out of their path that are too big to be moved. Despite this, the elfin Fairest doesn't hesitate in her stumbling to try jumping the little gap in the course.

Surprisingly, despite having much trouble with the rest, Circe makes the jump. Then again, it is a child proof safe jump, so not that impressive.

Sonnie, by now, was at the juice bar, slurping her smoothie (banana and grapefruit) through a straw. She was... mostly watching Circe.

Mostly.

There was a good-looking buff dude at the other end of the bar she was making eyes at. As a result, her advice to the Iron Spear was a little... distracted.

"Yeah, good job. Keep it up and, uh, and stuff. You can do it. Get into the... the flow of it."

Harden Mask, as I forgot to include it earlier.

She did that right? Did Sonja send Circe to the hard course instead of begineers? Okay then.

The monkey said she was doing good. Confidence has its benefits. The more difficult jump however very much disagreed with her poorer performance this tide.


THUD. THUMP. Children's laughter at the adult failing.


That'd hurt her stomach at the sudden stop too. "Cazzo, che male. Cazzo di merda, come è questo un lavoro dannatamente buono Sonja?!"


She looks to her "instructor" and notes where the Spring's eyes are at. Of course, joyfully seeking eye candy as a joyful was want to do. Okay, he was eye bangable, but really a 6 out of 10. Her mantle flares in annoyance at the lack of attention paid to her as well.


"Sooooonie, is there something ya'd like ta Cher?" Circe WOULD have song that out. But self inflicted gut punches negated singing.

"So, you look like you work out," she giggled playfully at Buff Dude, as the two of them had moved to sit together at the juice bar. Before the guy could say anything, Circe took her tumble and Sonnie was broken out of her distraction by the Italian cussing. She blinked in surprise as she saw what had happened.

"Oh, uh... 'scuze me. Be right back..." she smiled at the himbo before bouncing over to Circe. "Okay, so, that's what not to do. Good lesson to learn. Glad you got it out of the way early! Very smart!" Nod nod nod. "Also, you made the kids laugh. Bonus points!"

"Falling is part of learn in parkour. It's gonna happen a lot." If you're not part monkey, anyway. "This is why I suggested this place. Better these gym mats than broken glass, am I right?"

[Circe]

Circe groans, "Pain is the body telling ya," she sits up, "You did a stupid." The Fairest scoffs, "More pain, dissuades from the failure," comes out very mechanically. Followed by a blast of Mantle before she tamps down whatever rage was caused by that quote.


"Right, splat and pomf beats splat with a crunch or slash," she stands up and looks to Sonja. "Though at least I know ya can be distracted by beef cakes. Know that right bait and that. Beef is better than bananas for you."


Circe folds her arms as she looks at Sonja Wu. "So, what else did I do wrong?"

"I get distracted by many things," she said, looking up at the ceiling as her mind wandered to the list in her head. Yes, she was getting distracted by the idea of distraction. Thankfully, she snapped out of it pretty quick.

Looking back to Circe, she smiled, "Momentum. The key to good parkour is keeping your momentum going. It's natural to want to slow down and think about your course, pick out the steps and jumps and whatnot. You got to ignore that instinct and keep moving! It's called the flow, where you're picking your path several steps ahead of time as easy as breathing, and your body just responds. It's also known as being in the zone."
