Milton Calls Wei Lin

The preparations they'd discussed have all been made. Accordingly, Milton dials Wei Lin. It's time for a visit to the factory.

Wei Lin picked up as barely two rings were out.

"Mr. Northbridge, hello. What can I do for you?" her tone is perfectly calm and pleasant.

[Milton]

"Good evening, Ms. Carter. Thank you for taking my call," Milton replies, polite as always. His voice sounds flat, lifeless, over the telephone.

"I wanted to let you know that the preliminaries we discussed are complete. A success on all fronts." She can almost hear the satisfied smile on the other end of the line.

"I believe it's time to pay a visit to the site." He pauses to see what she might have to say to his news.

As Wei Lin listened, she idly wondered that Milton would be a perfect choice for voicing some really droll GPS navigator. British sure would go mad for it.

"Most excellent, Mr. Northbridge," she commended, a smile heard in her encouraging tone.

"Then we have no time to waste. If you would be so kind to send me the details you've acquired, I'll arrange our visit at the earliest convenience. Since I'll be playing your assistant, I could hardly allow my 'boss' to do such menial tasks, could I?" she chuckled, but made sure to pose it as a question in case he wanted to interject with a counterproposal.

[Milton]

"A fine idea," he responds to her suggestion. Utterly unbothered by the arrangement. "Shall I drive?"

Milton is equally happy to share the information he's gathered. "The details will be sent shortly," he's at his computer, after all. "Your email address?" No need to be clandestine. This is perfectly legal information pertaining to the employee pool and financial fitness of a possible acquisition. Should there be any inquiry, a backdated NDA would be easy enough to produce.

[Wei Lin]

"If you'd be so kind, yes," she agreed to the ride immediately. Far more convenient and believable than driving there on the taxi.

"A moment," taking the phone from her ear, Wei Lin quickly texted Milton one of her more official work addresses. "Texted it to you. I'll review as I get it. Ah, and feel free to add any documents you think I might need to be aware of as your 'assistant'. I do prefer my covers as tight as I can make them." They would probably be the ones who ask the most of the questions, but some back and forth was expected.

[Milton]

"Very good. Sending everything over directly," Milton replies.

"I believe that covers the necessary ground at present. I will pick you up at the address you've indicated on [date] and [time]." And we shall see what we shall see, he adds silently.

"Until then," he says by way of sign off. With that, the line goes dead.
