As Edward pulls away, leaving Dirt Nap behind, he dials Mable Wood through his car.

Mable's phone rings, she looks at it. Edward.
"Hi." She responds with a friendly tone.
"Hi, Mable." Edward knew Mable wouldn't mind the first name use, and it was his way of saying she was free to use his first name — at least for one on one conversation.
"I am hoping you have a moment to chat about the case with the painting, have I caught you at a good time?"
She smiled to herself at his use of her first name. "I can always find time for you, Edward. How can I help you?" She just couldn't help herself but be a little flirty, even when discussing something important.
Edward relaxed into his chair, Mable's few words already washing the taste of disappointment from his mouth. So he indulged in the brief luxury of, in his own way, flirting back.
"Ah, but your words are always music to my ears, Mable. If only I wasn't calling over something so," and with a note of regret, signalling his shift to business "dull."
"I plan to arrange a meeting with Mr. Kowalsic; I hope to find you inclined towards attendance?"
Music to his ears, she almost giggled, "You are so sweet, Edward." She couldn't imagine him ever being called Ted or Ed or Eddie.
"Time with you is never dull. I will certainly be ummm inclined to attend. Are we going in together or meeting up? Where and when?" She would make time. this was too important.
Thinking about last meeting, "Maybe you could let me know what you want me to say? or rather not say? I don't want to botch things."
"I had planned to suggest [date] to Mr. Kowalsic, does that conflict with any of your prior arrangements?"
"I believe it would be best to go together. Would you find being picked up at the farm agreeable?"
Mable's question was a relief to hear, but he wasn't about to directly agree with her self-deprecation. "Why don't we discuss our roles for the meeting on the way?" Edward thought her straightforward sincerity could be useful, as long as it was measured.
Mable almost sighed with relief that he would go over roles. She struggled with what to say when, and time hasn't helped much.
"That all sounds wonderful to me. Dress code? Or you could arrive early and tell me the best outfit to wear.." She smiled at the thought of trying on clothes for the Deava. What would he think of her lack of fashion sense.
Edward took a moment to gauge how serious her playfulness was.
Mable probably meant it. Then again, it was easy to show up, compliment whatever she was wearing, and test the waters the day of.
"I can scarcely turn down such a lovely offer."
"Well then, I shall not hold you further. Enjoy the rest of your evening, Mable."
"Good evening, Edward. See you soon."
