(SBS) Dillon v Jonokuchi

[Jonokuchi]

When it was time for his own bout, Jonokuchi removed his kimono, revealing himself to be wearing a black mawashi, the infamous loincloth often mocked by many.

To some it looked silly. To the sumo, they wouldn't wear anything else. Taking slow strides up into the cage, Jonokuchi stopped at the entrance of the cage and bowed respectfully to the octagon. It would be the place to help regain his honour.

After the introductions are out of the way and Jonokuchi stands opposite Dillon, he begins to squat low, preparing his muscles. He looks almost bored, placid, a way to cover his nerves. As the ref indicates for them to fight, Jonokuchi rushes forward, his intent completely on the victory.

Welp. He gets bigger, the closer you are to him.

As Dillon clocks the man removing his kimono and indeed reveal an actual mawashi, it isn't mockery that crosses the Gangrel's features. But interest, and perhaps some excitement. Either this man is very dedicated to his stage image, or he is legitimate. The latter is simply too good of a possibility not to consider.

How many American Gangrel will ever get to say they fought a real sumo?

The Reeve bends, lifting the hem of his jeans to unzip his boots and kick them out of the cage. He is clad in only a pair of jeans that fit and stretch exactly where they need to in order to allow freedom of movement. And the wraps over his fists. There is a silver pendant that lays on his chest, which is the last thing that he slips off. The gift from Ariana goes over his head and into his change pocket.

Dillon returns Jono's bow. Again, obviously not mockery.

The Gangrel's speed is like greased lightning. But perhaps too fast. Too eager? Or too conscious of the size of the mortal man and what he can or cannot let people see him doing?

If the First Tradition demands he lose, then he shall lose. Period.

[Jonokuchi]

The man's speed! It shocked Jonokuchi just how quickly Dillon moved, and knew right there that he was in for a memorable fight, one that would help him regain some of the honour stolen away from him in his homeland. Win or lose, this would be a good battle, one that will assist the Warlock to focus on the ripples of every passing moment, every grain of sand that is life.

When Dillon missed his chance to grab the sumo, Jonokuchi attempted to change his offence on a whim but was already to set. Instead, he barreled into Dillon, wrapping both thick arms around the muscular man's chest, the fat on his own stomach rippling with the impact, as he attempted to quickly get a kimarite early.

Dillon is Grappled. Jonokuchi has DEF 2 and STR 4

Fortunately for Dillon, Juno obliges the grapple. Though he instigates, he does not necessarily control. That's something the two of them, with very different wrestling backgrounds, both know well by now. The Gangrel's natural clinch is a Dirty Boxing hold behind the opponent's neck. And while perhaps Dillon could force this, in order to better control the giant's center of gravity...

It's awkward. The big fellow is at least a head taller than him. Thus, Dillon would be constantly dropping his weight and stepping to vie for position and keep Jono's head at a manageable level. So he forgoes this, instead allowing his broad shoulders to settle onto the sumo's torso, and stiffening in a powerful sprawl to keep from being bowled over. The notion strikes him.

Why hammer away, when he can say he's dropped a sumo in front of kine in a manner that is not a Masquerade Breach?

The very thought is a thrilling one.

It's partly about regaining some dignity after the initial miss. And show that he isn't screwing around. But it's much more about a warrior going that extra mile for another warrior he finds himself respecting. The Gangrel drops further, just low enough to hook his arms around one mighty thigh-- he can manage, he has good reach-- and lift. Not very high. But a twist at the right time makes it look spectacular.

Nearly six hundred pounds slam into the floor of the ring. It could only be more dramatic if everyone watching picked that moment to jump.

Dillon spends his Overpowering Maneuver to render them both prone. His Grapple Defense is 7 per FS: Grappling, and retains the 1 armor vs Bashing attacks.

What an easy thing, assumption can be.

Adaptability is Strength.

Jonokuchi had been a sumo since the age of 16, gone through the ranks and suffered the abuse to reach the near-pinnacle of the sport. Until his Awakening had changed all that, the Warlock had been one of the names to become Grand Champion.

However, that had been in a different arena. There were many differing martial arts out there and practitioners that trained in their field just as much as he did in his.

This Dillon was not only fast but strong, and as Jonokuchi ht the canvas, if this was a sumo match, it would be over. But it wasn't. This was an entirely different battle. Still, no matter how hard he pushed, Dillon simply had the upper hand with his takedown, nullifying Jonokuchi's strength and weight advantage.

With both of them down, Dillon can really go to work. It's a constant battle for positioning, true, but the Gangrel has trained hard for this. Markers of both classic Jiu-Jitsu and the modern version pioneered by Helio Gracie are evident in his style. He doesn't cruelly target any specific area of Jono's anatomy, but is content to strike where the other man allows.

If his guard goes high, Dillon drops a bomb on his ribs. Low, he stuffs one in his face. Hooks to pass around front guards, stiff jabs for side guards, et cetera. While at the same time, the Reeve tries to keep them both grounded. It's an assault on all fronts, that requires attention to multiple aspects at once.

No single blow is a crippler, but they are stacking up to some serious damage.

In the art of sumo, a wrestler is never taught how to defend themselves. It is usually the end of the match.

This wasn't sumo. This was the next step.

As the blows rained down from the stronger man, Jonokuchi gritted his teeth, which looked quite like a determined grin, and attempted to shift his arms around Dillon's midriff. Once he had a firm hold, the Warlock squeezed with all his might, a grunt of effort escaping from his mouth.

As the Sumo puts the squeeze on Dillon, he gives a grunt of his own that is not entirely voluntary. It's exciting! He hasn't had this good of a fight out of anyone in a while. Street punks are just thugs with no heart. This Jono, however, seems to have a deep well to draw from.

There's life in this old boy, yet!

The Gangrel honors this, the best way he can.

With the meaty arms gripping his torso in a powerful bear hug, Dillon takes advantage of the lack of guard around his opponent's head. Sprawling out, bare feet anchor on the mat. Dillon brings his fists in with two mighty hammer blows, striking with the heels of his palms somewhere in the region of Jono's jaw and ears. He doesn't bother being too precise; there's nowhere else really that he can aim, held as he is.

He squeezed for all his worth but his opponent simply had the better position, and Jonokuchi knew it. Too late, he also realised he'd left his head exposed.

The hammer blows instantly shut down his brain, causing the sumo to go limp on the canvas, finally beaten.

When Jono's arms go slack, Dillon stands cautiously. Some people have that thing going on, where they can lose it, and pop back awake at a second's notice. It's lost some people their win. While he doesn't think that's really a danger here, the Reeve is far from careless.

He sticks around, long enough for either of their hosts to presumably rouse the man and assist him out. Dillon does this, so that he may clasp forearms with the sumo, and help him to his feet.

"Thank you for that honor," he says quietly, with a clap to the man's shoulder. The words aren't for anyone else to hear. "If I had done any less, it would have been an insult. The very last thing I wish to do, is insult you."

Not requiring any kind of reciprocation, Dillon will collect his boots and leave the cage unless stopped.
