Vulgar: Color drains from the immediate area and depth perception becomes temporarily skewed, everything seeming to draw in uncomfortably close, making rooms smaller and all but distant objects seem in reach.
Vice: Color drains from Avis and her facial features seem indistinct and grainy, as though her identity is growing less defined.
Virtue: Colors appear more vibrant and everything seems to become grander in scale.

Avis shucked off her wind breaker, baring her arms and the silver-white lattice of scars covering them. A hand trailed up to rub a roughly mended patch above her right breast, the area bleached white against the sleeveless hoody's usual grey. Yes, tonight she'd embrace what she learned after her staking at Asp's hands. Her opponent, and this fight, would be the crucible that would turn that knowledge into Fact.

She paced into the cage and faced her opponent, nodding to other woman. Arms came up, hands in fists.

As Mal stepped into the cage, her eyebrow slipped a few notches up her forehead. She would barely have noticed this bland, shadow of an individual in a crowd. Shit, she hadn't noticed her. But now, it was like looking into a wonky carnival mirror. The dark hair, the whipcord muscle... the scars.

But she seemed to be lacking a certain.. something. An erectness of the spin perhaps? The surety of step? The fire in the belly? That sense of pride, of self-will that kept the tiny hunterheart punching when 'common sense' would dictate you should just lie down and take it.

There seemed to be an air of resignation about her. Like she had already accepted she was going to get the crap pounded out of her.

While Mal was careful not to underestimate her opponent - there was always the possibility it was a ruse - she would be all to happy to oblige.

No pre-amble, no fucking around. As the cage was shut behind her, she locked eyes with her opponent for a single heartbeat, all the warning she would get that It. Was. On.

A blink and then suddenly a fist was crashing into her face, knuckles cracking off of her cheek. She could almost feel the blood vessels bursting beneath the blow, even as her head snapped to the side, riding a fraction of the force out of the blow. Just enough not to get her face literally broken. She took a step back, trying to regain equilibrium, and even as the pain, and fear of harm roared through her head and inside her chest, there was a spark of relief she wasn't fighting a hugger. But then that faded too as her blood heated up and things snapped back into focus.

Part ways. She threw a clumsy punch, the one she'd left herself open to throw, but her opponent wasn't out of her depth and easily sidestepped the blow.

This would be a very fast match.

Mal was most definitely not what one would call 'a Hugger'. She felt that blow travel right up her arm. A satisfying, meaty 'thwack', with undertones of bone-on-bone.

She didn't hesitate. Didn't give her staggered opponent a fraction of a moment to recover. She waded in with her follow up blow, letting the clumsy return strike glance off her harmlessly. A quick jab to keep Avis on the back foot all she could manage after throwing herself so heartily into her first.

That skull rattling first blow must have knocked something loose. Another punch, another bruise, and then Avis stepped forward throwing all of her weight behind a blow...that hit nothing and then suddenly her footing went out from under her, sending her crashing onto the mat. Swearing, she swiveled around, trying to get her feet in between her and the other woman.

Mal took a casual, measured step back as this... this floundering powerdonkey took another swing at her and just fell flat on her face.

That... rather jarred her from her rhythm of punishing, uncompromising brutality. No matter how hard-core you might be, there was something slightly embarrassing about beating the crap out of someone flailing on the floor just trying to get away, whose only crime had been daring to think she could stand up to this.

Mal held fast to the philosophy that the object of fighting was winning. Everything else was nonsense. But... this wasn't a life or death struggle. It... complicated things.

"Get up, or stay down." she hissed looking around uncomfortably. "You are embarassing yourself."

    ...and me.

    Mal (reluctantly) holds her action.

Almost. She was almost there. Her opponent just needed a little push, and then Avis would be one step closer to perfection.

Avis took advantage of Malory's kindness and climbed back to her feet. Then she looked Mal in the eye, and gave her a taste of southern hospitality. She spit, right in her face. The mucousy concoction expressing just what she thought of Mal's concern.

She's trying to provoke Mal into throwing another punch. Let me know if I should roll dice!

Well, she tried to spit in Mal's face. It was at least in her direction, but the gesture lacked the implicit force that such a nonverbal "fuck you" required.

Mal shook her head in irritation as Avis clambered to her feet. She was having another one of those fairground-mirror-reflection moments. That stubborn refusal to quit. That glare that said 'Fuck you and everything you stand for, and doubly fuck you for going easy on me.'

    Pointless, petty defiance...

Oh, and now she'd spat at her as well. Charming...

    Mal frowned, unhappily.

Is that what I look like? She wondered, despairingly.

Well, since Avis clearly wouldn't be satisfied until she had actually broken something, who was Mal to draw it out.

She delivered her own brand of hospitality, 'down South'.

    With her foot.

Lucky for Avis, Mal didn't really have the feet for Steel-Toe-Cap boots...
