The mage is overcome with self-doubt. The weight of momentous choice is too much for her and she is flustered, doubting her ability to choose correctly or to perform adequately. Any rolls made for the remainder of the scene suffer a –1 penalty. In addition, a Willpower point cannot be spent on any roll (although it can be spent to boost Defense).
The mage’s fixation on her ability to make decisions makes her especially susceptible to Fate magic; she suffers a –1 dice penalty when contesting or countering such spells. She suffers –1 dot to her Resistance Attribute when resisting Fate magic (see the spell description for the specific Attribute used).

Without the mana to fuel his spells, there was little he could do to help any of the others. The cost to obtain that mana, Animus cares little about. He focuses inward, on his own pattern, and nearly cries out from the pain as he tears pices from it. He can feel his body responding more sluggishly, but he continues to circle, not daring to land.

Soaring high, Tam sees the spell wrap around Ankh and watches as Ankh's paws leave the ground, watches as she falls upward. Quickly, Tam pulls at the weaving of the spell so that Ankh can slip through the threads. She feels the spell weaken, but then she feels something else. Something has gone wrong.
