Basketball Court

Hector has acquired a basket ball. How, when, and why remain a complete mystery.

So now there is this homeless vagabond, dressed in voluminous shorts and an equally stained and voluminous shirt. Here he is, having taken over this urban basket ball court. Not that anyone would challenge him: the day has been long and hot; any sane person would be in AC or under shade. The sky is brazen blaze and the sun is a large molten ball finally sliding low over the horizon.

The air is heavy and hot. He feels it stinging the soles of his bare feet. His hand still smarts from where he grabbed the metal fence.

Currently it is just him. Alone. On a basket ball court, defying the lingering heat of the day.

And so we are clear. THIS SCENE HAPPENS DURING HOURS OF DAYLIGHT. But its open to any non-Vampires :P

Cricket was out exploring the city, the slap of his burkens on the street a beat he was bobbing his head to. He was soaking up the sun in loose harem pants and a baggy sleeveless shirt, beads cluttering his wrists among his tattoos. The sight of a grungy man alone, gripping a basketball out on the court, was hard to miss. He paused and considered the long list of cons. Whatever, been awhile since I got chased by a crack head anyway.

He pushed up his sunglasses as he headed over to the fence, leaning against it with his forearm raised to rattle it and get the man’s attention. “Ah fudge, that’s hot!” His sharp pull back and yelp from the scalding metal probably did a better job. He was more embarrassed by how lame his swearing had gotten since trying to do more family friendly gigs than anything else.

He didn’t know this guy’s deal, but it wasn’t really his business either. All he knew was that sometimes just being present with people was enough to make a difference. It wasn't like he had his shit together most days either. He grinned over at Hector. “Hey man, sorry. What’s up? You got a game going?” He asked with a nod of his head to the ball while still on the other side of the fence so far.

"Oh yeah! I wouldn't touch that. Or stand here. Burns the feet, man."

So says the man standing in bare feet on a hot basketball court. Go figure. Hector grins a toothy grin.

"Game? Just me. Say... You up for breaking a sweat? I've got nothing better to do and its kind of dull with just one."

One of the great things about being the boss is you get a pretty big amount of leeway in when you take time off. And it was sucha glorious day, if blistering hot, that Emily had taken the afternoon off.

Dressed in a short black tank-top, jean-shorts and fishnets, the blue-haired Ithaeur is wandering around the block of their territory, keeping an eye on things, when she catches a scent in the wind that brings a half-smile to her lips. Hector.

Following her nose, she turns the corner to see the basketball courts, her Alpha, some other guy, and, most surprisingly, really, an actual basketball. She strolls over to the Court. "Hey, chief. Thought I heard your voice," Emily smiles, and gives the other guy a nod. "How's it hangin'?"

"They should put up a sign or something for future dinks like me." He didn't comment on the man standing barefoot on the asphalt. He'd watched a hippie step on a thistle without even blinking once. Some really cultivate a badass sole. "Hell yeah I am!" He said with genuine, if a little sudden, enthusiasm. "I know zero other than ball goes in basket, but I'm game to game."

He trotted out onto the court, turning as he heard another voice, prancing backwards a few more steps and then doing a light jog in place, arms wiggling free at his sides, to warm up. "Hey! Sick styles." He said returning the nod to Emily and her blue hair. "You joining in on these hoops?" He added the slang because he was very much with it, whatever it may be.

"Hey. Emily."

Hector paused mid-sentence as he juggled the urge to recognise his pack-mate and the responsibilities of the Oath.

"I'm hot." That much was obvious.

Still grinning, the homeless man gave the basket ball an exploratory bounce while he waited for Emily's reply.

"Please say yes."

"Thanks. You too," She replies to the guy looking him up and down, with a nod of acknowledgement. Hm. kinda cute, in a weird way. She points at Hector, "Uh, Yeah - as he said, Emily. Hi!" She says by way of introduction, swaggering into the entrance. "Got a name?" she asks him.

"Oh, go on then," she says in a hard-done-to tone, but her broad grin belies any seriousness. She continues the swagger up until about five feet away, then bursts into a sprint and goes for the ball, though her eager eyes make it all to obvious what she's about to try.

Swipe the Ball!

“Jay, like the letter.” He threw out his name while his eyes lit up at seeing Emily make a swipe for the ball. His grin widened as he took a wide stance and began some circling hops around Hector to make a play for the ball himself.

"Oh you cheeky!"

Hector doesn't get much more out as he springs into action. He is too late to stop Emily Makerith from whisking the ball away. The homeless man posses a raw physicality which he uses to regain control of the ball, muscling past the spiritual mechanic to regain the ball.

Not that he gets that far - Cricket PiggySaysWhat is hopping and shimmying around Hector like a buzzing fly. The two men shuffle and dance around one another, the ball bouncing in the contested space between them.

Hector will easily defeat Emily on this pass. Hector and Cricket are tied. They, and the ball, are going nowhere.

"Hey, you gotta be adaptable, Hector!" Emily grins at the in-joke, chasing up to the guys while they're not making each other for the hoops. While their eyes are for each other, a flash of blue sprints towards them.
