(1701) Sanctuary 4

[Avis]

For several long moments, Avis' eyes bored into the page, her mouth forming a constant stream of whispered gibberish, as though the page held more than a handful of words.

Finally, however, her eyes raised from the page, her gaze sweeping around the room, eyes wide and fierce.

"I...they're supposed to be dead," she ranted, pacing back towards Star. "Scelesti, killed. Not...not this! The trail was supposed to have ended! It can't just...it can't just appear again!"

Her voice was harsh, almost cracking from strain that no one else understood. She seemed to realize this a moment later, blinking at the other Magi, and began again.

"These people," she explained, jabbing a finger furiously onto the paper. "They were supposed to have been killed by Scelesti. Scelesti the Arrow put down. But...but if that's just a cover up, then the killers are still out there!"

[Strix]

Strix watched Avis stare at the paper for a while, letting her collect herself as he turned to answer Faye with a light chuckle. "Practice away, I doubt you'll be hearing any complaints from anyone," he said with a shrug. It wasn't like she could make it any worse. By accident. At least, he didn't think so.

It did give Faye time to practice magic which she wasn't all too used to, so there was at least some good that came out of their injury, which made him join in with Tuesday's comment with one of his own. "And you coming along to any other time trip would be great."

With Avis finding her words again, Strix turned to pay attention to what she was saying, a frown quick to settle on his face. He figured that 'Ashworth' might be someone from Avis' Sleeper life, but he didn't think it any of his business to inquire too much about it. "Well, could the paper maybe be used to sympathetically track down who wrote it? They might know something about this."

Of course, whoever wrote this might not be all too easy to reach and trying to scry on them might just make them aware of Avis.

[Campanella]

Another surge of pure warmth shot through the Moros. This time, the lingering heat burned out the remaining pain and soothed the last of the aches. Campanella moaned - an involuntary action as the relief poured into his body a second, more decisive, time.

He barely registered it as the shocking revelations tumbled from Avis' lips.

"What? Scelesti? What killers was this? How could this..."

He steadied himself and breathed deep.

Turning at last to Faye, he nodded his thanks. "My thanks for the assistance." Back to Avis. "Now. This. What do you mean about Scelesti that the Arrow put down? When was this? I should probably ask for the benefit of those not directly involved - what was this?"

[Aurora]

Even though she was excited that her spell had worked a lot better this time, she also felt the exhaustion from it. Her reserves were low, and she kinda slumped down in the seat. This magic was hard to cast, but not impossible. Sighing heavily, she gets up, going and sitting by Tuesday.

A weak smile was offered as a gentle had rested on the Enchantresses arm. Once again, she tries to call on Life. The warmth was there, but it was weak. Frowning, she tries again, only to get the same result.

She sits back, not used to this level of exhaustion from casting magic. Looked like she was going to have to work on this more if she was going to be any good at it. And need to build up her own pool to get anything done.

"It was two thousand and two," Avis hissed, whirling on Campanella, a vein literally starting to throb in the corner of her left eye.

"It was...It was a cult! A fucking Scelesti cult! They killed a bunch of fucking people, but the Adamatine Arrow was supposed to have killed them all. Obviously, though, that's not fucking true! Or was never true! The Seers set this up," she exclaimed, smacking the paper for emphasis.

The closer you get to someone, empathy becomes sympathy. Little Ess. Okay, Big Ess, too. But sometimes? It's still just a reflection. Because apparently there was a date on the paper, too, which meant it Wasn't A Coincidence.

He wasn't ignoring her distress, just stupefied into silence while trying to re-arrange puzzle pieces. Like finding out you're the one holding the empty suitcase at the end of a long con and wondering when it started. Wrong question, that's always the wrong question.

"Maybe the Seers used the Accursed?"

Limbs unwound and he stood, too. It was hard to get a grip on the spin. Definitely not telling her to calm down. But? Not super comfy with the idea of the Arrow being at fault. Not like the Arrow wasn't capable of it. Just that if she was getting turned upside-down, best to have things to hold on to. Of things that are True, Avis being an Arrow was one of them.

"Maybe...," hands opened and closed, fingertips tapping on thumbs, "Maybe this is your chance to make it right?"

[Strix]

Strix glanced between Campanella and Avis, getting the feeling this might be something from before any of those present were involved. They all had lives before Sacramento, this might very well be from Avis'.

The past coming back to haunt anyone was never any good.

After Star spoke, Strix settled for just making an agreeing noise with him, not really wishing to parrot his words or assumption. This might just be her chance to make it right -- or at the very least, get those who were actually responsible. Considering the way she reacted to the information, it certainly looked personal to him.

"Well," he said, "the Seers do like to manipulate people, so it wouldn't exactly surprise me if they used the Scelesti in some way, either to commit the murders or as scapegoats while serving their masters in some fashion. Was this cult local?"
