Rendezvous with a Ghoul

Konrad and Martha work together to remove incriminating evidence from the Motel room to suggest a handful of Kindred bore witness to Cody's death, including Cody's phone. Konrad has to use his bowie knife to slash open the bite marks on Cody's neck, attempting to suggest a suicide by neck slitting. It wasn't as popular as wrist slitting, but it would achieve the affect of disguising the wound as self-inflicted. The only problem with that is he'll have to leave the bowie knife behind, positioning it in Cody's grip while positioning Cody's body to have collapsed in the shower. The lack of blood would be explained by the shower drain and the running water. The serial numbers on the blade would only reveal that the blade had been purchased in Sacramento legally in the last year.

Another problem with that though would be the running water would attract motel management, making the discovery of Cody all the quicker. He would only have tonight to go to Cody's apartment to ensure no evidence of Konrad's presence there is left behind for when the police investigate it. Konrad will allow Martha to accompany him, seeing as he can't use his former Haven while police could be sniffing around. Rather than waste time trying to lose a tail he calls a taxi from one block over and instructs the driver to take them directly back to where he parked his van. If Martha wishes she can depart there or continue to assist Konrad as he drives to Cody's apartment, letting himself in with his copy of the key. There he will go around the apartment painstakingly removing evidence of his habitation and inspecting Cody's possessions for journals and camera footage. Anything disturbing or perverse outside of Masquerade breaching evidence he will leave for others to find.

He calls and arranges a drop off from his criminal contacts, a simple drug-dealer with a small package of illegal narcotics. He meets him outside, handing off the cash before returning to place the drugs inside. If all went according to plan, Cody would be found. The police would find the apartment in Cody's name with no evidence of a roommate. The drugs would be discovered and Cody would be labeled a troubled man caught up with addiction and the painful struggle of withdrawal leading to Cody's depression and suicide.

Cody's reasoning for coming to the Motel that night would remain a mystery. Konrad would destroy Cody's and his own phone. But despite covering his trail so meticulously there were plenty of chances he could have overlooked something. Perhaps it would have been better to hide the body and make Cody disappear altogether. It might be years before anyone noticed. But that would have given Cody's death no purpose and no warning for the Kine to take example from. A sacrifice for God's plan for him.

With the deed done, Konrad drives off in his van, taking a memento from the apartment to remember Cody by. If Martha has stayed with him he will drop her off where she requests.

Teamwork roll for cleaning crime scene of evidence?

Martha is keen to use pillow covers around her hands to touch any windows and doors while leaving open any windows in the apartment. Then return the pillow cases to the proper location.

She will explain that this will help 'innocently' confuse room temperature and any air con thermostat and thereby help frustrate any coroner correctly estimating time of death for Cody. His leaving the water running in the shower was sensible, though without the plug being in to catch the water, and would thereby help explain the lack of blood, despite the massive exanguniation.

Before Konrad uses the blade on Cody, Martha will be attentive to making sure he's using Cody's proper hand preference to set up the suicide scene. Nothing will trigger cop interest, she remarks, more than an obvious trap of rigging a suicide with the weapon in the wrong hand.

Again, Martha would raise the matter of the sump and U-bend in the baths internal plumbing that would normally catch pooling blood, so keeping the water running would help explain the absence of blood on Cody's hand and to any super diligent law enforcement, the absence of typical expected quantity of waste blood in the U-bend.

Concerned that criminals always overlook something, Martha will ask Konrad to take the battery out of his 'phone to reduce the chances of the police triangulating him from cell-tower masts.

Remarking that Konrad contacted Cody earlier that evening, she wanted to remind Konrad that his number will be on their mutual call registration. Also, was there anything incriminating to Konrad or the Masquerade, more generally, on Cody's cell 'phone memory or any possible FaceB' or Cloud account?

Making use of her Eidetic Memory, she tries to reverse engineer in her mind the scene of the crime to make sure nothing lingered that pointed back to Konrad, Katya or herself.

When the chance arrives, Martha will wish Konrad luck hug him and then, with a weary heart, make her way back via taxi from being dropped off at Konrad's van.
