(LS) Ritual Sacrifice They Read

Once more, the rotation of the earth amidst it's migration through the fabric of the cosmos had brought Sacramento into the sphere of night. Shrouded by the mass of the earth itself, the violent messengers, the predators of the Almighty arose and two amongst their number made their way to a silent, looming house that had not known the tread of mortal soles in decades. Indeed, the last mortal to enter there had been bound and carried inside in chains. He had left in a similar fashion, a black cloud of magic dampening his mind.

It was, in a perhaps ironic turn, that two of the walking dead would attempt this night to remove a similar fog of ignorance, though one created through secrecy rather than blessings.

One had arrived early, and waited for the other in the vestibule.

Josephine stared at her watch as she waited, listening to the sounds of the house beneath the steady ticking of the mechanism.

Kenneth drove up in his car and parked outside the house. He chewed his lip as he sent a brief text from his phone, preparing himself to face the monster inside the covenant's church. With a brief moment to put his thoughts to together he got out of the car and went up to the door. He knocked, uncertain of the etiquette, and entered tentatively.

And there she stood. The porcelain predator, looking as pale and smooth as ever. It was uncanny. Kenneth did his best to smile while the Beast mind shrieked in terror.

"Sister Josephine, how are you doing this evening?" Gilroy fell back on habitual greeting and moved forward despite wanting to run in the other direction.

For some moments the Priestess did not reply, but eventually she nodded to the skeletal demon and then turned to lead him further into the Moore House.

"Tonight Brother, we shall be searching the entire building for mentions of sacrifice, previous clergy, and purchases from this blacksmith," she explained, stopping at a table which held drawings of both the ritual symbols and the blacksmith's mark.

Kenneth stoopped down to examine the marking. The thirteenth hour clock, a star, a boot print, reverse writing, and a spike and chain. The clock seemed the most easily symbolic but no immediate meaning occured to Gilroy.

"Do you have any guesses on what they might mean?" he asked as he traced the patterns with his finger. Off hand it seemed like some sort of pictionary more than clues found at a murder "And in what context were they found?"

"They were found at the site of a ritual murder. A sacrifice that was partially covered up. As for what they might mean, well, that is partially what we will be attempting to discover this eve. There was nothing conclusive, beyond doubt, at the crime scene. Such is the trouble with frigid cases," Josephine replied breezily.

"Regardless, we have quite some work ahead of us. We must comb the entire house, top to bottom, and then below."

Kenneth continued to memorize the markings for a couple more seconds.

"If these are ritualistic markings, it's possible my grandsire may know something about them. He has existed for a long time as a Priest of the church. Perhaps he's come across them at some point. I could plan to go see him in the fall. I can bring along sketches, if you'd like." He looked up to see if Josephine approved. It would allow a convient and reasonable excuse that didn't reveal how much he feared his Bishop might destroy his mind at some point.

"Though first the search. Yes." He straighten as much as his slouching posture would allow.

Any bonuses or penalties for the roll?

Depending on what is being searched for, a sustained, comprehensive search would probably be Intelligence + Investigation. So too would more specific declarations enable Specialties. Teamwork is perfectly fine!

"If you think it necessary to involve outsiders," Josephine said stiffly, "then so be it. For tonight, however let us begin our hunt."

Josephine is look for records of purchase related to the smith, in addition to anything which bears resemblance to the clock, petrine cross, or other symbols found at the crime scene. Also, any mention of ritual sacrifice, punishment, or Ventrue. She would request to be primary actor.

"He'd not an outsider. Elija is a member of the church and my immediate family. Of all I've met in my Requiem, it is him I trust the most." Before even my own Sire.

Did Josephine's ears deceive her or did she actually hear pride and a willingness to confront in Kenneth's voice?

No; because afterwards he was more than willing to follow all her instruction on what to search for and where without question like the push over he was.
