The nagging, dry, voice of her common sense finally got her attention. How embarrassing - it was the other way. Hildegarde paused and made a show of taking her bearings again.
"And then we turned... this way!"
Off she went!

Since no one had claimed the Flak Jacket, Konrad ends up having Cody don it. If they're dealing with an archer then he doesn't want his Ghoul getting felled by a stray arrow.
Konrad adjusts the jaw trap in his hands as he follows Hildegarde in her turn. It seemed a rather roundabout way to get where they're going, but she must have remembered the way using landmarks he isn't able to recognize.
Fails to Notice
Following Hildegarde and Konrad, he adjusted the pack as best he could to maximize movement. He looked around them trying to determine the best route to take if they were ambushed. The Daeva quietly whispered to the others, "How far in do you think we need to go?"
Like most threesomes, there is confusion, questions, and bad directions.
Once again, the intrepid --but wayward-- trio sets off.
Solid ground and grass give way to marshy mud and tall fronds that sway in the wind. Small burrs and sharp leaves catch at legs as mud slowly squicks it's way over shoes. Trees whisper, rustling in the wind like the sound of rain or small waves crashing. Eventually, they find what they're looking for.
The smell of plant life, living and decaying, becomes tinged with the hint of smoke. Ahead, regular, angular shapes from the ground could only be man-made. Like any hive or nest that's attacked, but preserves it's queen, the Yolo Hive has survived and rebuilt. The bramble wall has lengthened, and now forms a full semi circle around the area. Here and there, drones work in the darkness in absolute silence.
And then they are there...
Hildegarde stops, pauses, and scrabbles for cover. Gesturing simply, she adds:
"They are still there... And they look to be more... more... dug in! See that wall? There is a bunker of some kind toward the middle of the camp. It was there David, Baldwin and the others found Regent Hart and the remains of the... of Muir. Cotouri's herd are more like automata. Be careful."

Coming within sight of the bramble perimeter, Konrad realizes by Hildegarde's whispered words that there's very little need to scout the area. Coturi is here alright and with fortified defenses. The number of drones concerns him too.
He also gets behind some cover with Hildegarde and waits for the others to follow suit before whispering back to her, "Let's back up a ways so we can adjust our plan for this." Even if the herd were on auto-pilot, Konrad would feel a lot better knowing they were also out of earshot.

At the mention of others, and everyone ducking behind trees, she follows suit. A bunker wasn't good, who knew how fortified it could be.
A quick nod was made towards Konrad. He was the boss, she was just the firepower when needed.
The hive as it was an disturbing sight. It was obvious that the plan needed to be changed. Quietly he crept away from the drones, remaining with the group. "One of you watch for any of them wandering too far away from the nest. I'll keep an eye for any approaching us, just in case."

The Kindred appear to go unnoticed...
Once they've moved far enough away and appear to have remained out of sight, Konrad sets down the jaw trap on the ground and gestures for them all to come in for a sort of huddle.
"So we've got a wall of shrubbery and a bunch of brainwashed Kine. Hilde, you said they're mostly automatic, like they're not really aware of their surroundings? Anyone have any idea what it'd take for one of them to notice us? Think we could take them out one by one or would that alert Coturi? And if it does alert Coturi, think that'd be a good way to draw her out?" Konrad knew jack and shit about whatever Bloodline their quarry came from, but if they could determine the drone behavior then they might be able to take advantage of it. Hildegarde knew something, probably being a Lord herself or from just having heard a little about it from someone else.
