(Skeleton Keys) Tangled Webs

Night drags on above David's head astride the back of Tracy's Motorcycle, clumsily holding his aluminum bike on his back. One day, David will get a more convenient folding bicycle; this is the second time the Mortician has had to apologize profusely for the awkwardness of his own mode of transportation.

Once at the Chapter House's grounds, David gets off of the bike and places his own against the side of the House; the pea-green clashes horribly with the pale-peach stucco. There, it will likely stay for the remainder of the night. Sweeping his gaze over the driveway, the Grand Wyrm strides back to Tracy while pulling out the hard-won cardboard tube from his satchel.

“It was...” David murmurs as he shifts through the blueprints, “this one?”

Holding it open, David attempts to orient himself as though using the blueprints as a map. “Was this Chapter House really over the Sewer System?” A thought comes over David in the meantime, “Do you think these three blueprints overlap with one another? Do they connect at common points?”

Tracy did her best to give David a lift, even if the bicycle on his back made things somewhat awkward. She drove at a decent speed, but much slower than usual. After all, she didn't want to have the Grand Wyrm kissing the asphalt or worse. Regardless, her own efforts were not enough to prevent him from losing the grip on his bicycle.

Upon arrival, the Gangrel parked somewhere nearby. "Sorry about your bike," she said to him, offering a sympathetic look to the Shadow. "We'll get you a new one." For a moment, the idea of getting David a ridiculous pink bike crossed her mind, which caused her to let out a soft chuckle. "I'm not kidding, we'll go shopping sometime...I promise," she added, offering him a quick wink.

As David pulled out the blueprints, the Rampant Dragon looked them over. "Yeah, this one right here," she said, pointing out the one she had identified already. Tracy quirked an eyebrow slightly at his suggestion, considering if such a thing was possible. "Hmmm...maybe? I can't say for sure, but I guess it could be possible."

Shoulders slump as Tracy mentions the mangled bike, “If I wasn't already dead, Rex would kill me. I just had it tuned up, too.” A sense of resignation follows the Grand Wyrm's assertion; he isn't well-off and in fact, David might be one of the only Vampires in the city that holds a 'night-job.' More of an entity than David is, it saw assaults upon a Chapter House and many miles Sacramento asphalt. “Maybe I can fix it,” though that might hope talking.

After a long moment of silence, David starts to work. A few rocks are collected to serve as paperweights and then the blueprints themselves are unfurled, laying them flat on dry patches of ground while the light from his phone shines down on them. The Chapter House's blueprint is at the center, while the Shadow considers if the other two connect in any meaningful way.

Even if they don't, the locations of the River City's rivers, the Shadow knows, might also serve as good waypoints for identification.

“Let's also start to identify points of interest in the Chapter House blueprint to reality. Our goal,” the Grand Wyrm points out, “is to figure out why Kogaion Muir saw fit to hide the blueprints to Sacramento's sewer system in the concrete of a memorial complete with a warning to the Academy. I have a feeling that the Kogaion saw that the sewer system was built to deliberately capitalize on the geomancy of the Domain. Much like they say Metro Systems of New York and Boston do.”

Running his fingers through his hair, David adds, “If these three blueprints don't link, then we'll have to think of other important locations to our Domain. I have a suspicion that one of the unidentified blueprints holds the Nox Elysium, for instance. After this, we can take the identified blueprint and explore...”

The sounds of a motorcycle closing in on the Chapterhouse and familiar voices speaking drew Eva from her reading, the Daeva's vampiric senses sharp as always. She'd been a fairly observant person in life, long ago; the addition of the Curse had only enhanced her as time drew on and her time as a vampire became more conveniently counted in decades than in years.

Her Beast thundered its challenge into the world as she stepped onto the porch, sensing the weaker monster lurking within Tracy Burns' Blood. She grit her teeth, forcing the hatred for the creature masquerading as a cute redhead down. There was no time for the Red Haze. This was the Rampant Dragon. There would be no incidents of ill temper.

Eva smoothed her dress as she stepped down to meet the arriving vampires. She raised an eyebrow as she noticed them looking at strange papers and paused.

"Good evening. Am I interrupting something private...?"

Probably not, given the location. But it was polite to ask.

Visibly stopping, David's attention swings to Eva as she weightlessly descends to the ground where he and Tracy stand. Just behind her, David looks at a blurry reflection of himself in the leaded glass of the Chapter House. In a flash, David wonders if he looks like the lonely near-widow he feels like.

The Companion, however, doesn't hold such musings. White-hot anger wells in David's blood as Beast is roused by the intrusion of another. Whispers of something sinister speak of a lust to see the woman's ash on his hands for no other crime than existing. The Mekhet closes his eyes and shakes his head free, claiming control and oh-so-valued dominance once more.

“Supplicant,” David clears his throat and passes a furtive look towards Tracy.

Trust is a funny thing. Just because of the shared connections of Covenant binding them, doesn't quite mean that trust is there. Be that as it may, it is David's duty to make sure that his Order is safe.

Fidgeting with his sleeve the Grand Wyrm states, “More delicate. But something that requires, perhaps, more discretion than you realize.” Eyes turn back towards the blueprints, “A number of years ago the Academy's Kogaion left a warning, in cipher, telling us that we must be subtle and we are sterling.” A moment stretches as David continues to examine the blueprints, “The Kogaion, unfortunately, has been destroyed. No doubt for the information we have here.”

“We are currently looking for the significance of these blueprints.”

Sounds of vehicular activity. Voices. More than two. Disturbed from her study, the Castellan rose and wandered downstairs toward the gathering. Her Beast, roused, crawled up her spine and spread its fingers outward, testing the air and shivering in both excitement and fear at the mix of Powers it encountered. Once relative strengths had been judged, the thing settled into the base of her skull and nuzzled at her mind.

The Lord blinked and wrapped her arms tightly about her.

"Grand Wyrm. Rampant Dragon. Supplicant."

No sooner then David's wrangles his Companion, does it screech in warning, once again at seeing Hildegarde float into the scene. David's beast aches to challenge her beast, to see who – which – reigns supreme. Vampire Society does not move along on any notions of equality. It moves along on power: perceived or real. The question of who is stronger is something it longs to know in the crucible of violence.

But the Man leads the waltz, exerting control and establishing dominance over David's bestial urges.

Turning his attention more squarely to the Castellan, David lifts a hand and beckons Hildegarde come closer. “Kogaion Muir's legacy,” a pointed glance towards the the three blueprints. “He left a warning: subtle and sterling. I need you to make doubly sure as to our defenses, Castellan.”

The Grand Wyrm waits for Hildegarde to approach before David points out one in particular, “Guardian Burns identified this piece as showing our current location. We need to discover the significance. We will probably have to travel within.”

The Castellan drew near at the Grand Wyrm's invitation. At David's invocation of the nomenclature and ciphers of the Order, she raised her dark eyes in a thoroughly studious manner. She made a great show of appreciating - and studying - the blue prints. How could she not: the poses came sudden and swift; now at least, she knew how to ride them out and turn them to her advantage.

"Hmm... very thorough. And very important works. I will need to add these to our other documents concerning the layout and defences of this our Academy."

Finally and with some effort on her part, Hildegarde laid the documents out on a convenient surface; hands ran over the paperwork as though it were charged with eroticism.
