Well. That certainly made things more interesting. It was a smell every Kindred knew to fear. The smell of accelerant. The smell of their demise. Would they be quick enough? Would their Cloaks hold and allow them to slip by before the flames consumed everything?

Lord Baldwin moved as quickly as he could without drawing himself back before humanity's perceptions, a walk slightly brisker than the one that, unbeknownst to him, David Regan was walking next to him. They needed to get out of this.

Asa Clarke had to be warned.

Somewhere, in the back of Peter Baldwin's mind, was a nagging question, a lingering bit of something. Self-doubt?

What if they didn't make it?

Nearing the entrance, the smell grows stronger.

Something sluggish and thick sticks underfoot. Something that doesn't splash like water*.

All of the bodies that were passed by before are gone now. Aside from Team Dragon Plus One, the concrete heart of the hive seems newly abandoned.

At the door, erratic shapes resolve, with patches of starlight peeking through here and there. It's a barrier, piled down the stairs, blocking their exit.

Fat droplets congeal on some of the branches from the steady stream sliding down the stairs.

Roxie's right. You don't need more than one. Jacqui's closing in on Hildegarde. Everyone else? Disposable.

The strengthening of the smell, that scent that promised a quick and fiery death at even the slightest hint of a flame, caused the Menace to stand to attention, begging him to go any direction but forward. But where else was there to go? This was the only way out, a way that was barred by a wooden barricade. He had a choice between a quick and fiery death, a slightly less quick but probably equally fiery death, and a possible way home.

Mustering up the Blood and all his might, Peter Baldwin did the only thing he could do. Go forward. With a growl, the champion of the Invictus threw all his weight and power into a huge smash, setting to demolishing the barrier before him with the force of a juggernaut.

In truth, was Aïleen's ( Bigpaw )Nightmare a warning for another? Was her recurring dream of death, fire, and brimstone truly a warning meant for the man she was fated to be with? Did Aïleen mistake the eyes for the patchwork of stars teasing at freedom outside or even The Hive? Only the One above will ever know for sure. Jacqui Cotouri certainly aims to make the Bomb Shelter a Funeral Pyre, packed with books and petrol. David might not know what the viscus liquid pooling beneath his feet might be for sure, but he certainly knows one thing: he has to get out.

With a deftness of hand David draws the Kitchen Knife of Peter Baldwin, irrevocably stepping back into conscious thought with this single action. If the Mortician was darkly glib, the thought that barriers of sticks and pipes are his one true nemesis might materialize. Not the brunette on the Motorcycle. Not Erika Brady. Certainly, not his own failings and the screeching of a Clockwork Shrike.

Fueled with the Blood he long learned to master, with all his might, and perhaps guided by the memory of his lost love, David uses everything he has into a single massive strike; hitting the weak point generated by the Sledgehammer of the Invictus.

Tracy nodded at Dog's words, as the realization of what was happening finally settled in her mind. Oh, fuck this! The Gangrel's emerald eyes squinted slightly, as the anger inside of her began to boil up. At once, she began to make her way towards the entrance of the bunker. Fortunately, Baldwin and David had managed to tear down the makeshift barrier that was preventing them from exiting, so the little Dragon took advantage of that as she ran as fast as she could.

Hildegarde was still outside, and their enemy was likely lurking in the shadows somewhere near her. Whatever the cost, she needed to make sure that the Ventrue did not fall prey to the same Kindred that had ended Muir's requiem. Once she was outside, Tracy began to look for Hildegarde.
