"Breaking the board is as much a part of the game as anything else. Learn when to use that skill for best effect." Hildegarde watched the other Lord with a playful gleam in her eye. "Yet here we are. You yourself seem to have settled in quite well, it seems.
Time to change the subject.
"And you? How have you fared these past nights?"

"Oh, you know, surviving," Edwin replied. There was a slight sag in the shoulders, one that he was not trained to hide. "I've been working, trying to gain Tenancy so as to set up shop. Last thing I want is to step on anyone's toes, especially given the example Prince Clarke gave at our family meeting. It's taking longer than I was expecting, although in the grand scheme of things, what are mere months to us? I could go all poetic, talk about drops of water in an ocean, depending on one's age, but I won't."
Another thing with the ocean. Good fishing.

Hildegarde nodded. She knew of the troubles with tenancy first hand. She had been lucky and had been able to clear up her own mistakes before the Court had become involved.
"It is a difficult but rewarding thing you are doing. No doubt you are already assisting the Domain in some fashion, yes? Political capital can grease the wheels, and sometimes we have to work for it." She sighed slightly. "One could always play the patronage game, yes? Ask our Priscus or someone else with influence for a favour - it will put you in debt but you might get your shop more quickly."
The look she imparted to the man seated next to her implied that she suspected he was already following her advice.

"I'd like to avoid that," Edwin stated plainly, still smiling as ever but not wishing to be in another's pocket. At least not so early. "I've always been one to work hard and get the stuff once I have the resources."
And the thought of asking Priscus Sterling for a favour did not sit well with this particular Lord.
"It's cool, though. Everything at the correct time. I'm sure that, in the night's to come, my business will flourish."
He left it at that. Edwin was working as it was, mobile. Having a studio would help with other matters to.

Hildegarde nodded.
"Fair enough. It is good to cultivate a long term view of things. Patience is our virtue."
No doubt it was better this way. They were Lords. A Lord earned what was theirs. They would not be beholden to others, or be the owner of tainted, compromised possessions that belonged to them only on sufferance.

"I couldn't agree more," Edwin replied. "Like I said before, we have the potential to live very long lives."
With the implication of having something come back to bite his ass later on completely off the table.
"Still, I have faith that everything will work out. Nothing less will do."

"That is a very optimistic outlook. I applaud."
The Whip's head tilted, bird like, to one side. Ever so slightly.
"May I ask? Faith in yourself or faith in a Higher Power?" She may as well press the conversation a little. Edwin was, after all, an Acolyte. If he was willing, the conversation could become... instructive.

Edwin thought for a moment the best way to answer that, fiddling with the laces on his sneakers. "Both, I suppose. The Crone watches out for me and I trust in my ability to see that she is remembered through my actions. My role as Skaald is to act as storyteller of various myths and legends surrounding the Crone."

"How wonderful! I must content myself with the knowledge of my own limits... and for what I might one day aspire to, through work and effort. The Dracul is no god to be preyed to, but an example to follow. That is what I believe."
For now, she sealed her lips against bringing up the matter of the Brides.
The Skald bit bought a furrow to Hildegarde's brow. "A storyteller? As in a scholar of myths? Or simply an impressario who tells the tales of your Covenant? Forgive me, I know little of the other Covenants besides the Order. Of all the others though, it must be said that the Circle sounds the most interesting for study."

"A bit of both," Edwin grinned, echoing his previous answer, a gleam in his eyes. "Primarily, I'm a teller of tales, yeah but they are not simply of random legends. They are supposed to be specific to the person I am telling them to, to hold up a mirror to what I, and no doubt, what others see."
A wry smile.
"Study? I'm always up for being studied."
