Priceless: Scene Five - Inside the Lion's Den

Approaching the Club Priceless from outside would reveal that the one bouncer has become two bouncers. The door that had been open to allow patrons to enter is now closed. The velvet rope has been pulled across, blocking the line of entry. People are walking out of the lone open door, speaking excitedly and trying to determine why the club was closing two hours early. The two bouncers glance at any one approaching and are positioned to block entrance.


Within the Club

Alice and Ester evaluated each other for a moment. The couple beside Ester shifted uncomfortably, displeased at being detained.

"A murder you say? By all means, come with me." Alice turns and strides confidently from the entrance way, leading Ester away from the crowds. A row of doors are in this hallway off of the back of the main hall. No doubt these were the security offices and side rooms for running a business.

Alice unlocks one and gestures for Ester to enter first.

Ester puts up no resistance to following Alice down the hall as they walk she asks "I didn't catch your name?" she stops outside the room not wanting to enter first.
"Call it agents paranoia but after you."


Alice raised an eyebrow at Ester. Ester had the distinct impression that Alice was openly evaluating her. Alice tilted her head somewhat to Ester and stepped inside the room. Alice took a seat behind a large desk, comfortably appointed. It was old wood and set with a dark green blotter. Two rolling chairs sit across the desk for visitors. A brick radio - one that relay longer distances - sits on Alice's side of the desk. Behind Alice's head are nine screens arranged in a square in the wall. All of them have small moving scenes within them, suggesting that this is live coverage. One of the cameras is facing the entrance to the club. The one beside it is facing the exit to the club.

Sam's call goes through.

Ester was impressed by the secrecy layout, she'd been in government buildings with less coverage then this club.
Ester's phone was set to auto-answer a call form Sam so the instant the call came in the phone picks up and her headset beeps in her ear. "Go for Agent Lawson" she said placing a finger to her ear. She looked back at Alice "Sorry it's my partner"
"Go a head... You picked up a person matching are suspect at [local nightclub other then priceless]... I'm on my way... no keep the channel open..."

"Excuse me, Agent Lawson?" Alice broke in. "We have a security situation. I was under the impression that you needed to speak to me. It seems that I never gave you my name." The dark haired woman smiles slightly. "It's Alice. I believe that I spoke to your fellow agent earlier." As Alice spoke, the door to Alice's office clicks shut on Alice and Ester.

"Sam, Games up, need extraction, back office," Ester says never hanging up the phone.
"Alice, that is a charming dress you have on, and i do adore your necklace. I would recommend you avoid doing anything rash, i am with the FBI, if you cooperate with me I will put in a good word with the US attorney for you."

Alice's smile widens a fraction. "Agent Lawson?" She spreads her hands, her eyes slightly widened. Her hand reaches underneath her desk, pulling open a drawer. A small black box with an antennae rested there. It was something most people could buy for some small cash online. Alice fiddles with the device for a moment and Ester has a terrible disconnection in her ear. Alice pushes the drawer shut.
"Oh, come now, Agent Lawson. 'The gigs up'. Do you have any idea how long it will take for an 'extraction?" Alice's smile becomes a wooden thing. "There's something I'm just dying to know. Tell me. You were here for Vanessa."

Ester is visible shaken by the lack of contact with Sam, she know's exactly how long it would take rescue to come. I hope Deamon boy is faster then I think.

"Yes, that's what i was told the Vampires name was."
She moves toward one of the chairs, not sitting down just yet but moving like that's the intent. "What do you want to know?"


The radio on Alice's desk hissed.

"Two - ten twenty, two ten road. We have heavy traffic coming down Grove. I repeat - heavy. Fast. ETA two minutes."

Alice picks up the radio.

"Colonel, route 1. Back door. Ray - escort."

Alice smiles at Agent Lawson.

"Oh, I'm sure I'll get all that I need from you later."

Alice picks up the radio, locks the drawer and moves for the door.

"I'll be seeing you, Agent."


Alice looks straight into Ester's eyes. Alice's gaze was hard and devoid of emotion. It was dead. Alice opens the door and walks to the hallway. One of the bouncers from the front of the club falls in step with her and walks her towards the back door.

The front of the club

Those watching can see a flicker of movement at the front of the club. One of them moves from the door to enters the club, practically running. At the back door, a black BMW luxury car pulls up and idles.

Ester realizes that she just was treated to an old fashioned shake down. Alice had made a point to mention her 'partner' whom must mean Sam. Alice had asked and Ester had confirmed that they were after Vanessa. No doubt the underworld was reaching out to Vanessa and when they could not, they would start looking at who had asked after her.

Oh, come now, Agent Lawson. 'The gigs up'. Do you have any idea how long it will take for an 'extraction?" Alice's smile becomes a wooden thing. "There's something I'm just dying to know. Tell me. You were here for Vanessa."

The radio that Alice had taken with her suggested that Priceless had many employees that Alice intended to keep in contact with. What would those employees be doing now that the club was closed and the police were on their way? As Ester turned down a main street, she heard sirens as a convoy of vehicles shot past her. SWAT team was arriving and Colonel and Alice were out and about.

Going to Sam's home - or her home - would not be safe.
