Tony frowned and pointed at the shoes and the regular footprints leading away from them. "Footprints and shoes. Might be we can get some evidence from them." He looked to the others for a moment, then carefully headed over to the odd trainers. Girardi was being cautious to avoid disrupting the actual bare footprints. This was so not what he was expecting. "It's as if the entire lake is being somehow polluted from here. Doesn't make any sense..."

He put his late gloves on and picked up the shoes, looking at the bottoms to see what the difference in size was. What was causing the difference in footprint? Were they just different shoes, or was there something else? Were the bare footprints even in size, or was there a difference? He looked carefully at them. Then he bagged and tagged them, figuring maybe the lab guys could get some better information out of it. Sweat, perhaps, or maybe if they were lucky, something more useful.

As Girardi begins bagging and tagging the boots Agent Harrison starts looking around the area, specifically concerned with the footprints. "They removed the shoes....odd in this environtment," he says in a calm tone, more thinking out loud than really looking for a response. "And then where did they go....?"

Agent Harrison attempts to follow the tracks from the boots while keeping an eye out for anything else that might catch his eye. "There were no bare footprints outside the cave that I saw. Barring having missed them entirely that means there is likely another way out of this cave...."

Jaeger moves carefully in the cavern, following his associates as they discovered more clues. Even with the improved visibility Jaeger hadn't seen them, and figured it was just his eyes adjusting. But now that the footprints were found there was the matter of determining where they led to. This suspect was becoming all the more involved with this dumping incident. And even if the cave was better than a cardboard box away from public eyes, why live in filth like this? And what could this homeless man have to gain? Certain pieces of the puzzle were still missing.

Jaeger sticks close to Tom, listening to what he has to say. "Yeah. There might be another exit. This guy may have had a lot of time to navigate these tunnels, so he's got a home field advantage."

Investigate Footprints, 6suxx

Girardi manages to bag and tag a little bit of evidence. He felt he was missing something as he did so, but it's brushed out of mind in order to to look around the cave further. All he can really see at this point is that there do no appear to be any other items of clothing hanging around.

Harrison can see that the footprints look about the cave quite a bit, at one one end in particular. It's difficult to track them in any specific direction on a cursory look however. His investigations around the cave however do eventually show six distinct area set out in a hexagonal shape. The "bed" area is difficult to see initially, so tucked away in the corners of the cavern are they. It is definitely becoming apparent that more than one person was staying here. It's impossible to tell whether or not they were all around at the same time, or if this is just a spot vagrants are aware of, and drop into throughout their rambling.

Jaeger's attention on the footprints proves worthwhile though. He can track the movement of the owner, as they tread around the campfire - perhaps stoking it, eating near it and whatnot. He can see exactly where the barefooted vagrant slept - a small spot closest to the entrance they had come through. He is also able to track the footprints to a darker area of the cavern, where the shoots of light just avoid. It would have been easy to miss without careful scrutiny. What initially appeared to be a thin crevice is actually a larger crack in the rock - a very narrow, near-hidden back exit.

This must be the route by which any wanderer exited.

"Interesting," Agent Harrison continues to muse out loud. He gestures to the various locations scattered about in a rough hexagon and the six stool-like rocks around the fire. "We're almost certainly dealing with more than one individual. I'd say it could be unrelated vagrants, but the number of seats matches the personal areas rather too well. A band of industrial-polluting hobos? That's a new one."

Girardi returned to his evidence-bagging, beckoning Tom over. "Harrison, you want to give me a hand with the forensic gathering here?" he asked. Tony knew he was missing something. This just wasn't his strong suit, and he figured that maybe his partner could do better. "So we've got the shoes right here. Care to take a look?"

He offered Tom the bag and showed him where he had picked them up.

"This is downright odd. A group of people living in a cavern, polluting the lake. What the hell were they doing here that could pollute the lake...?" He looked down at the soil, inspecting it to find a good patch to collect a sample from before taking a test-tube worth of the dirt. If there was any water collecting, he would take a sample of that as well - all the better for the lab to look into.

"Yeah, looks like it," agrees Jaeger with Tom, his mind growing with clarity as the disturbances in the cavern floor begin to make sense to him. "They gathered here, slept here, and..." he trails off, following the footprints into the darker peripheries. "And they exited...here." Jaeger heads to the wall where the crack is. "Didn't see this before. Looks like a slim route, but they managed it. I'm thinking we follow this and we're more likely to find them. But if there is as many as their tracks reveal, then we might end up being out-manned."

Jaeger thinks a moment, looking back to Tom and Tony. Then he takes out his phone and raises it up above him, checking the screen to see if he can get a signal to make a call.

Can each agent please roll int + investigation, please?

Girardi quite easily picks up samples of the dirt and the water. From the looks of things, it was definitely contaminated, just like the outside. As Jaeger reached in to check out his phone, he can see that down there reception is absolutely terrible. If any of them were to make any calls, it would need to be outside the cavern.
