Why so curious?

With Alastor’s brief depiction of caution, she could only agree with the man. “Ah I see.” Thumbing to the front of the store where they previously came from. “A buying trip or something?” Daysha casually added before she palmed her hand toward the author. “And please, if you have customers don’t let me keep you from them.”

Daysha gave a little shrug while nodding her head. “Sure, thank you. If you have cock in a can that’d be great.” The detective was rude enough as it was. To turn down something would be a bit distasteful. And she could hear her mother barking manners in her head anyway. Besides, she was craving a cola.

"Oh, certainly," Alastor responded, happy to oblige the reasonable request. He rose from his seat, edging past the sleeping black dog to a small fridge a few feet away. He took no drink for himself, but handed Daysha the can.

"And no, his work at the University simply takes him away for long periods, sometimes."

“Thanks.” The detective said when it was placed in front of her, and she cracked open the can.

“Oh, you both work at the University?” Daysha inquired. “I noticed somewhere it mentioned you did when I saw you were in Sacramento in the book cover’s jacket.” Taking a small sip of the Coke. She was slowly trying to feel this guy out, so to speak. Lately approaching things head on was perhaps not always the wisest thing.

Alastor didn't appear to mind the questions. The woman had come here to get information from him, so it made quite a bit of sense to try and feel out the territory beforehand. If there was something that he could not or would not answer, then he would mention it.

"I help where I can, Alfred does most of the work."

“Speaking of your book, the information contained in it was very fascinating.” The Detective didn’t always want to beat around the bush, and she figured Grimm was probably use to questions.

“Especially the part about Ephemeral Entities.” Daysha said after recalling those particular words from only a few hours ago. “A lot of useful information. How did you come up with it, if I may ask?”

“If it was covered in your book already, I apologize. I didn’t read it extensively.”

"There was a little in the book, but don't worry too much. I can see why some people might not want to read through all the uninteresting things in between," Alastor commented politely, in case Daysha felt awkward at all about having not read the rest of the book.

"Well, I am an occultist. It's sort of my job to find out about these things." He paused, leaning back to regard the detective.

"Do you believe in this sort of thing?"

Daysha wondered why there was so little in the book and he took the time to mention it. Nodding, she decided that question would come in time considering the other things he mentioned.

“Your job?” Daysha repeated and turned her head sharply in question. It may have seemed the mention of it slightly caught her off guard.

The Detective didn’t want to outright admit yet that she did or did not believe it in, however, she was pretty certain her answer was still in the middle anyway. “Well most people don’t randomly read books like yours without having some sort of interest.”

"Well, officially I'm a Professor of Linguistics. But you would be amazed at how frequently my services are required to translate archaic texts," he waved a hand in a general way, as if trying to grasp at the correct choice of words.

"It comes up quite frequently in the occult. It sort of... became my business to become interested in that sort of thing," Alastor continued very carefully.

“I have no doubts that kind of education is exceptionally handy in translating.” Although Daysha had yet to discover anything that would have required his services in the past. Still, a mental note of someone to maybe ask at a later date if encountered.

Taking a small sip of the coke, the detective was becoming more curious to this guy’s odd interests. “Became your business? How so, if I may ask?”

“Your interest in the occult that is. I mean, you did write a book after all.” Daysha smiled partially at the corner of her mouth.

"I was asked to translate obscure texts from those specialising in the occult," Alastor replied and furthermore, sounded happy enough to actually field Daysha's questions. He slowly sipped his own drink, a mug of tea with a fragrant aroma of something citrus.

"And... Well, some of it is rather interesting. One translates a topic enough times and an interest becomes piqued."
