Saskatoon, SK
Saskatoon is a city in central Saskatchewan, Canada, on the South Saskatchewan River. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Corman Park No. 344. The census metropolitan area population of 260,600 which makes it the largest city in Saskatchewan.
History
In 1882, a group based in Toronto called Temperance Colonization Society, was granted 21 sections of land straddling the South Saskatchewan River. Among the group, a Cabal called Balance of Two Worlds join in the journey along with the colonists to the site that would become the first permanent settlement.
In the three years before the Northwest Rebellion occurred, the members of the Cabal spent time searching the area for mystical hot spots along with setting up various bases for their Orders. With the rebellion in full swing, the settlement saw trouble as wounded soldiers are sent to the Marr Residence, there Pain Spirits feeding off the wounded soldiers pain became too powerful and numerous for the liking of the few Thyrsus living in the budding city. They did their best to deal with the Pain Spirits, using Spirit magics to bind the more troublesome ones into objects that are still stored in the Marr Residence to this day and under the watchful gaze of the Mysterium, the residence as become one of the oldest storehouses for the Order in Saskatoon.
As more people came west, so did more Awaken either singly or in the form of short lived Cabals that defused upon arriving to the budding settlement. New Cabals rose from the immigrants, so too did new representatives to the once Balanced of Two World dominated Consillium in the year of 1902.
The less then graceful retirement of Hierarch Golem Four, who had been of the Adamantine Arrow order, saw the rise of a Silver Ladder Hierarch known as Augustine Midas among Awaken Society. Under Hierarch Augustine's reign, the settlement prospered, particularly as in the year 1905 saw the province of Saskatchewan, the city also almost became the capital city of the new province. Bridges would be created and a railway linking the city of Saskatoon to the capital city of Regina.
Hierarch Augustine death saw the passing the leadership of the Consillium to an Adamantine Arrow known as Pan's Flute in the year of 1935, a year that saw a Cabal of two Banishers attempting to break into the Marr Residence the night a meeting being held within the residence between Hierarch Augustine and the leader of the Mysterium known as Drake Tinlance, who lived long enough to see off the two Banishers.
The first order of business for Hierarch Pan's Flute had been the hunting down of the pair of Banishers who killed Hierarch Augustine Midas. The pair had fled to a church in Nutana, Hierarch Pan's Flute rallied the Cabals, recruiting fighters from each of the Cabals that call Saskatoon home. The Banishers managed to animate a vast collection of specially prepared statues the man had gathered in perpetration of fending off the Witches' attacks. Luckily, before entering the church, Heirarch Pan's Flute ordered the best shooters to take positions at the exits/entrances and the pair were gunned down fleeing while those within do their best to fend off the animated statues.
Hierarch Pan's Flute's reign would see a new Order, the Free Council, join the Consillium as the previous Hierarch refused to acknowledge as an order, labeling them as Apostate. As World War II geared up, so too, did the Seers of the Throne, who managed to get a foot hold in Saskatoon through thralls while some of the Awaken felt it was their civic duty to sign up for the army, particularly those within Pan's Flute's Order.
In the year of 1951, an assault upon the Consillium began from the Seers of the Throne, their thralls mailed bombs to the Sanctums and Hallows throughout the city while their Masters send in Pylons of lower ranking Awaken to assault the Order's strong holds. The assaults never succeeded due to the actions of a Cabal named Shaping Ruins, who stumbled upon a cell of thralls escorting a too eager Seer back to their hide out five days before the set date.
Alerted, Hierarch Pan's Flute sent warnings and put a young Awaken Silver Ladder known as Problem Sixty to organize a sweep throughout the city by organizing the Cabals to volunteer to sweep sections of the city. Hierarch Pan's Flute put his former student known as Heat of Battle in charge of watching for incoming Seers into the city. Without certain cells of thralls reporting in, the Seers suspended their assault, although a few hot heads among the ranks did disregard the cancellation to try to sneak into the city anyway and were dealt with in a manner that didn't arouse Sleeper attention.
After thirty years as serving as Hierarch, Pan's Flute retired from his posting, handing the reins of leadership to an Apostate known as Vixen Fourwinds. Hierarch Vixen's reign of over the Consillium saw smaller incrustations of Seers of the Throne. A Pylon managed to set up a business in Saskatoon called Juggling Goods, a magic shop/New Age business, there are three within the city, two of which are owned directly by a Seer Mage, residents of the city.
Six years after being made Hierarch, Vixen Fourwinds hands the reins to Problem Sixty, heading north after joining the Mysterium, searching for mystical items left behind by First Nation Awaken. Within a year trouble in a different form occurs as a pack of werewolves sneaked into the Marr Residence, stealing a number of centuries old items that have Pain Spirits bound within them. These items have yet to be recovered and many believe that they might not be in the city any longer.
In 1986, Hierarch Problem Sixty passed on the mantle of Hierarch to Free Council member known as Citizen Hundred thirty-eight. This saw a different Consillium as Saskatoon Awaken Community shifted into a more democratic structure then the previous, more traditional one. A small group of dissatisfied Awaken left Saskatoon, taking up residence in the province capital under the leadership of a Silver Ladder known as Noble Instinct, establishing a rival Consillium three hours away from the now Free Council dominated Consillium.
The foolish President Citizen Hundred thirty-eight then invited the Seers of the Throne to join the Consillium four years after he assumed control of the Awaken Community, which they took him up on. After a year of joining, they would betray Citizen Hundred thirty-eight's hospitality by the death of twenty members of the Consillium which included the President, destruction of twelve Hallows, the raiding of two major Order strong holds, and lowering of the city's Gauntlet, encouraging Spirits to crossover before the Gauntlet returns to normal.
An Adamantine Arrow stepped into the power vacuum, known as Three Oaths, she would be forced to hunt after the fleeing bands of Pylons which carried valuable items from two major Orders, leaving a Guardian of the Veil known as Grim Sinners to do damage control, covering up the deaths of those twenty Awaken among Sleepers along with fourteen properties which include the Silver Ladder and Adamantine Arrows strong holds. Grim Sinners received help from the Regina Consillium while some of those Arrows in Regina decide to aid Three Oaths in retrieving what was stolen or avenging items that were destroyed.
1992 and 1993 would see no new Hierarch to rule over Saskatoon's Awaken Community but it was not without its defenders, particularly when a surprisingly large band of Banishers arrived in the area, operating in both Regina and Saskatoon. The combine might of the returning Three Oaths and Grim Sinners ended the threat the Banishers. Neither Three Oaths or Grim Sinners accepted the position of Hierarch, both wanting to rebuild their orders.
January 6th of 1994 saw a Mysterium known as Grant Frog assumed the mantle of Hierarch and did her up most to keep on good terms with the Consillium in Regina as it remains intact. In 2001, Hierarch Grant Frog steps down to focus on her studies and a Adamantine Arrow known as Type G assumed the mantle of Hierarch, as the other Orders still recall when Silver Ladder Problem Sixty handed over the reins of leadership to the much hated Citizen Hundred thirty-eight.
Hierarch Type G remains so to this day, the problems concerning the Seers remain as does the Banishers.
Much more recently, in the year 2010 an Mysterium Cabal named Scoobies Rule has left the city in order to learn the fate of these spirit jars stolen by that pack of werewolves.
The problems concerning the Seers continues in the form of Juggling Goods as each of the Orders have recently began to investigate independently the series of stores owned by the Seers since 1965 as the stores turn from merely spying on the community of Awaken to beginning to take a more proactive role in their dealings with the local Awaken by selling cursed items to those few Awaken who buy from Juggling Goods stores have met with unfortunate ends. The current stores are under the control of a single Pylon for the first time since they were opened under the same name.
Demographics
Adamantine Arrow: The current leader is an aging Three Oaths who is coming to rely much on her second in command, Cat's Eye. Three Oaths is doing her best to groom Cat's Eye to take over when she retires and remains a popular Order given that the Hierarch is also a member of this Order. Waves Bones is leading the Arrow's investigation into the Juggling Goods store.
Apostate: No leader but they do number higher then the Free Council, which isn't very hard really.
Free Council: The current leader is Vampire Fifteen and as the least popular Order given the actions of Citizen Hundred thirty-eight in welcoming Seers of the Throne into the city. As such, they have been keeping their head down. Their number can be counted on one hand which is four and form a single Cabal named The Sentries of Liberty. Finding a Seer connection concerning the Juggling Goods, they are trying to redeem their Order's previous involvement with the Seers.
Guardians of the Veil: The current leader is Grim Sinners' previous second in command, known as Mouse Mask. The Order is fourth in number of Awaken being members despite all that Grim Sinners has done to keep the Sleepers out of Awaken affairs. Mouse Mask has appointed Mighty Odinson to investigate Juggling Goods on behalf of the Order.
Mysterium: The current leader is Nick Talesspeaker and is the one to silently encourage and support the Cabal named Scoobies Rule to venture on their quest, often sending leads for their search. It should be noted that after the Arrows, the Mysterium are the next populous order. Steam Engine Eighteen eighty-eight is leading the investigation into Juggling Goods for his Order.
Silver Ladder: The current leader is a recent immigrant from Edmonton and is known as Mistress Ivory. She is also leading the Silver Ladder's investigation into the Juggling Goods.
Seers of the Throne
Juggling Goods series of stores are own by the Pylon named Serpent Bite of the Paternoster Ministry. They 'bought' the other two shops from the thralls from two of the rival Ministries. Henpeck is the Pylon's leader, leading the five others with a iron fist as he possesses varying degrees of black mail material over the five.
