When Sasha's fingers playfully caressed his tie, John smiled, glancing down at the slender digits. Looking back up, he replied, "Practice does make perfect, or so they say," chuckling lightly and taking a sip of his wine. As she continued to speak, he tilted his head also, perhaps in a slight jokey way, mimicking her movement. "Why? What else can you teach me, Sasha?" he teased before laughing and lifting her hand to kiss the back of it.

She had already taught him quite a bit in their budding relationship.

"Ah, you mean the New Year's kiss? It is an old tradition, one that I feel is very appropriate when in the right company," John replied, smiling. Although perhaps there was a hint of sadness in his blue eyes. In truth, he had never performed the tradition himself, not for a very, very long time.

Nodding profusely, despite having that whimsical demeanor about her. “It really does.” A smile beaming from her lips. “And with a certain someone, I don’t mind practicing over and over…and over again.”

“Hmm, well there’s always Salsa. Or a little East Coast Swing.” Not realizing how much her free foot kept turning at the ankle. But it may not have been the mere discussion of dance that did it. “Unless of course you mean something other than dancing…” L’aire trailed off a little as she asked John for a tiny bit of clarification. Though the Fairest really wasn’t sure what she could teach him.

L’aire realized they were both perhaps hinting to the tradition of the kiss. Lord only knew why they were both hinting. In a world where everything was pushed in front of you or blunt when it came to certain things, sometimes being subtle was truly more enjoyable…and sexy. Yet after months of staring into John’s serene blue eyes, L’aire saw the hint of something that was just the opposite of his smile. “John, I’m sure that…

There was that Winter part of her that slipped through her veins. Just like the coffee shop before, she was concerned about hiding it away. Still, she refused to deny herself these moments. It would have been callous to say one thing, then shy away from John.

Shaking her head. “No.” Looking down a moment, securing her hand into John’s a little more. “I’m one hundred percent positive that tonight is both appropriate…” Her violet eyes flitted upwards after lacing her fingers around his. “And the perfect company.”

    48-hour rule: Engage!

John didn't say anything, not being able to find any words to mirror the one's Sasha spoke. It really was the most perfect company. And the evening, although quieter than his normal evening activities of burning down Hisil buildings and taking on strange spirits, it was very appropriate to the situation.

Reaching across with his free hand, John raised his wine glass in a toast with a smile as he looked into Sasha's eyes.

"To twenty-thirteen. May it be perfect."

Cal offered a small smile and a nod when she said she was impressed. It was a classic, which he felt reflected his companion in the best way possible. There weren't all that many classy people around any more, so it was quite a compliment in his mind. He watched her lips as she spoke, and the surve of her shoulders, rather pleased with the position he was in.

"Now that is something to be excited about." He raised his glass to give Velma's a delicate clink, staring into her eyes as he did so. "To music, and pleasures."

Maintaining the look he took a long sip of the whisky, savouring the light yet fiery tingle.

"2013. The future looks good from where I'm standing."

Wishing she had something more to add to John’s words. The Dancer often flubbed quotes and anecdotes as it was. L’aire gently clinked her glass to John’s while matching his small raise in toast. “Indeed, to twenty-thirteen!” Smiling when her lips touched the glass after, crowing the one tradition.

The Fairest did wonder why he went for the toast instead of the alternate. Maybe it was because he was a chaplain and he was trying to set a good example. Then again, there was the coffee house. Or maybe I just fail at hinting. After setting the glass down, L’aire’s graceful fingers moved to John’s wrist to find his watch, moving his sleeve enough that her slender digits may have touched one of his scars. The time was less than a few minutes until midnight. Tapping the crystal of his watch, the Dancer’s proximity was very close when she spoke. “Were you waiting until the stroke of twelve for the other tradition?”

Then the nerves kicked in, almost like the first night they met. Way to ruin a moment, way to be pushy. It’s not like it wouldn’t have happened after we leave either. L’aire may have held tight to her smile, but there was definitely a gasp of uncertainty in her eyes.
