“Boss isn’t in yet. I’ll give you a call back, and see if we’re allowing training yet,” the Contact promised, and there was a definite sense in his voice that it was the best he could currently do.

"Great, thanks so much! Have a good day," Ryan said pleasantly. He'd let the man say goodbye and hang up first before hanging up. Fairly certain that that was a dead end, he realized he would need to go look around the scene. Seeing if there were any witnesses or cameras around might add some useful information to the situation and give him a direction to look next...

And going by day was a good plan to start. God only knew if there was something that went bump in the night running around, he wouldn't want to hang out there by night alone.

Packing his laptop and its accessories into a backpack, as well as some investigatory tools just in case, Ryan realized that this might be the kind of situation in which he should pack some heat. Heading to his gun drawer, he looked over his guns, checking the sights and magazine before strapping on his underarm holster. The gun sat snugly inside, filled with a fresh clip of full metal jacket rounds. His backup pistol went into an ankle holster and was concealed beneath his jean leg. Naturally, he kept a certified copy of his firearms license on him at all times. Doc Marcus was nothing if not legitimate.

Work boots went onto socked feet, and a rather nice leather jacket went on overtop of his shirt and holster. It was time to head to the scene and see what could be seen.

He wasn't going to roll in style to this. The attention wasn't necessary. The BMW would need to sit and wait. Placing his bag in the back seat of the Once-Was-A-Daddymobile Chevrolet SUV, Ryan did what he loved to do: drove, heading toward the bus stop where Chris McCabe died at a reasonable pace.

Idly, he wished that Harlowe or Jackson or Harwood were around. He wasn't the kind of guy who wanted to be out hunting creatures alone... but at least he had daylight on his side. That was comforting.

    Sort of.
