The cab pulls up to the Zebra Club and Vince climbs out. There's quite a crowd of people outside the door, most of them smoking cigarettes and talking into cell-phones. As he watches a couple people walk up to the door where their way is barred by a muscle-bound thug wearing a tight black t-shirt and jeans. He holds his hand out as they fish through their pockets and then produce their IDs, which he checks by flashlight before admitting them into the bar. The bouncer looks around and his eyes fall on Vince. You can see the question in his eyes. They say is this nerd old enough to be here?
It makes Vince mad. Here he was starting his junior year of college and this muscle jerk was questioning his maturity. Vince yanked out his wallet and fumble for his license. It takes a few tries, making him even more furious. By the time he has it out his scowl is plain. He passes it to the Bouncer.
And he waits. Maybe if Vince looked liked Bouncer Briefs he wouldn't be carded to go into a night club. Genetics were a pain in the ass.
The bouncer takes a look at his ID and then hands it back to Vince, immediately disregarding him afterward. It was as if the muscle-freak didn't expect any trouble from the geek in glasses. Go figure.
Vince walks inside to find a crowded bar. There are a few tables and a big bar on one side of the room. Along one wall is a bank of arcade machines - Lucky Strike Bowling, a crane game, Star Trek pinball. There's also a couple dartboards in the back, and a pool table. As Vince looks around he realizes that there are a lot of beautiful young people here tonight. College students, like him - some of whom he even remembered seeing on campus a time or two.
Vince thanked his lucky stars. He had had showered and wore actual clean clothing. His t-shirt:
At least He thought it might impress. That's all he cared about. The arcade machines were tempting, but Vince had come for beer. Grandma did not appove, so Vince was forced to sneaking a stash down to is 'lair'.
He make his way to the bar and orders a Bud. It was on the sign... Drink in hand he checks his change as he makes his way to the Star Trek pinball. But his male senses tingle, Girls? Cute Girls? Cute nerd loving Girls? decisions...
The bar is filled with good looking women. There are a few absolute stunners at the bar, dressed in designer clothes drinking margaritas. An older woman, sitting by herself at a table - one of those cougars everyone talks about. Most of them seem pretty busy getting drunk and hit on already, though.
Looking around some more Vince notices a trio sitting at a table sharing a pitcher of beer. Two girls and a guy, and as Vince looks closer he realizes that the girls are identical twins. They each have short-cut black hair and glasses that make them look more cute than geeky. It was obvious from where Vince was standing that one of the sisters was there with the guy. The other sister seemed to be enjoying herself just tagging along.
In any case nobody's coming right up to talk to Vince, who doesn't exactly stick out in a crowd. If Vince wants to do some socializing that doesn't involve Teamspeak and DPS then he'd better seize the day.
That or he could just play pinball. The ball was in Vince's court.
Vince considers all the pick up lines he knows, from 'your legs are better then those of an Isosceles triangle' to 'I can be a Solo to your Lea'. But they sounded a great deal more chessy then he remembered.
He drinks the rest of his beer, sets it aside, then wonders up to the table with the twins and guy.
He waits for the coversation to settle bit then approaches the appearntly single twin. ihs hands start shacking his voice gets dry, It was like middle school!
After moment where he has her attention; she is waiting for him to say something. Vince shoves his rebelious hands behind his back and asks polity "You want me get you a drink?" The beer helps and he adds "Or is this gentlemen paying for you as well?" His tone makes it clear she doen't have be a tag along for the rest of the night.
The twin girls look at Vince, look at each other, and start giggling profusely. It's rather maddening for poor Vince. Once the giggles have subsided the one who seemed unspoken for looks him over with a grin then she says, much to Vince's relief.
"Yeah why not, you can 'get me a drink.' This 'gentleman' over here is just my dumb sister's stupid boyfriend."
The girl's twin pops her on gently on the shoulder at being called dumb with a stupid boyfriend, still grinning at her sister. Meanwhile the 'stupid boyfriend' just rolls his eyes and drinks his beer. The girl Vince is talking to thinks for a moment then says
"I'm tired of beer, I'll have a Captain and Coke."
Vince grits his teeth for a moment, was this going to work? Considering his low rate of success he might as well try a different approach and see if there was a different out come. Scientifically, it was a sound idea.
"Ah, well for that you're gonna have beat me at game of pool," He jabs his thumb at the pool tables elsewhere in the bar. Maybe if Vince turned this into a game he would have a chance and she would have some fun.
Or she would just have fun and Vince lost nothing. A win-win since she didn't have to play pool and Vince didn't have to buy her a drink.
"Oh yeah?" she answers, arching an eyebrow "You might as well go order that drink, then."
She hops down from her chair, pausing as her sister leans in to whisper in her ear. They share a smile, and Vince and the girl walk over to the pool table. "So what's your name, poolshark?"
"Vince." He gives her a grin. "And yours?" Vince finds an empty table and begins setting it up for the game. He offers for her to break once the balls are racked.
