Honestly, the Carthian he met at Mass known as Arnoud had intrigued Heathcliff. Mariel had said he was dangerous. Well, so was everyone. Including her. Especially her. He smiled to himself as he dialed the number he had been given...

The phone rings once, twice and mid-way the third time it is answered. A single word is spoken, more an admonition than a phone greeting.
"Arnoud."

"Hi, Arnoud. This is Heathcliff Staley. Does your invitation still stand?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Arnoud doesn't answer for a full five seconds, the sounds of men and women having a good time can be heard in the background.
"Ah, glad you called. One moment, please." Arnoud finally speaks into his phone, his tone -if not exactly gentle- is no longer harsh.
Another ten seconds pass and the joyous sounds grow silent, the sound of a door opening followed -some seven seconds later- by a metallic click.
"Okay, sorry. Yes, it stands." Arnoud answers in a composed and conversational manner.
"As I initiated, you may choose a time and place you are comfortable with."

Heathcliff considered for a moment. There was no reason not to have a little pleasure with business, or whatever this turned out to be. And Mariel's outfit had spurred his mind down a familiar path...
"You know the strip club, Ember? Can you meet me there in an hour?"

Arnoud makes a soft and short 'uhm'-thinking noise for the neonate's benefit before replying.
"It might take me half an hour longer than that. Is that agreeable?"
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
"That's fine. I'll see you then." Heathcliff hangs up, and decides to take the extra time it will take for Arnoud to arrive procuring a sizable quantity of one dollar bills.

Smiling, Arnoud hangs up too.
