Out & About II

Narration

The clerk stands there awkwardly for a a moment or two when Teegan refuses a bag, then finally tucks the receipt into the book and slowly hands it to her. He looks nervous, as if he'd like to talk to her, but is riding shotgun to low self-esteem and intimidation is in the back seat.

He finally turns to Orphan, surprise flickering across his eyes as he realizes the man is still there.

"A regular? Not really... I mean, I've seen him panhandling by the Tower Bridge, but only in here maybe once before..."

This is the most exciting day he's had all year.

Teegan eyes the cashier over Orphan's shoulder, what's up with this kid? He was staring like he'd rather talk to her and what the heck was Orphan troubling him about, she had no idea that Orphan was a book fanatic.

The guy's uncomfortable glances were getting to her, she couldn't stand shy guys with little confidence. Usually she approached them and dragged them out of their safe little shell. It was doubtful that the cashier met her at bar before she played, he didn't seem like the social bar type, but maybe he had. It was enough of a chance to use the standard ice breaking fall back, "have I met you before?" She asks the cashier guy after he answered Orphan then she gives Orphan a 'lets go please' look.

Narration

"Ah, no," the clerk replies, blushing. "You might like The Mirror of Her Dreams by Stephen R. Donaldson," he added, before busying himself with the next customer.

Orphan, seeing Teegan's look, leaves with her.
