Along the river bank, drains lead into the sewer system, so placed to keep erosion from becoming too destructive.
And so in the race to escape, Ajax finds himself falling into the darkness, end over end to land with a solid thump in several inches of water, mud, and detritus from run-off. Little of that registers, however, as he fights off the surge of his Beast...
Ajax takes 2 Aggravated from the flare gun, and must roll to Resist Frenzy at -3 (5 successes needed).

Frenzy avoid .... thank god
This night had officially moved from SNAFU to FUBAR to whatever the fuck came after that but at least the big Gangrel had managed to avoid the pull of the beast and could at least think properly. Not that that had been an asset to him or anyone else so far tonight but it was one less thing to worry about. Ajax realizes that he's almost soaked and seems to have lost track of Joseph in the whole mess. He looks around to try and figure out just where the hell he was ... and how to get away from those nuts with flare guns. Insane homeless vampire hunters. Almost enough to make a New Yorker vote Republican.

As Ajax fights with his Beast, there's a dull, hollow scraping sound of concrete and steel; the silver slash of light from the hole splinters and shrinks into thin beams.
The tunnel is large; large enough to handle flooding from the river as well as it's more plebian purpose of erosion control.
There's a splashing, sloshing noise approaching.
"Are you dinner tonight?"
The speaker is hunched over, even in the tunnel's height. If Ajax had the time and inclination, he'd place it at well over seven feet tall. The skin is a livid red, with stretch marks and bony-looking growths distending it like some over-ripe fruit or swollen hemorrhoid. Dark patches of lesions and necrotic tissue riddle the red surface; sunspots on a dying star.
One hand works bony claws as it speaks.

Ajax gathers his wits and sees the ... Thing, Man-Thing or Something from the mind of John Carpenter. The Gangrel stands up to full height, making sure not to make an aggressive movement that would provoke the .... Thing, while not showing anything that would mark him as prey. "No. I'm not dinner. You'd probably need to drink your weight in Pepto - Bismol if you ate me." The Gangrel Whip sees the bone claws on the hand and prepares himself to react if the thing makes a threatening move. "I'm just passing through."

"Ha!"
The bark thunders out like a shotgun blast in the tunnel, carrying with it the stink of breath as unappealing as it's owner's skin.
"You're funny. Now shut up."
Small clicking noises come from long claws, possibly a nervous habit, rubbing together as the dark, beady eyes turn upward to the grate that's been replaced.
Overhead, dim voices are heard as the vagrants beat the bush for their missing quarry.
After a moment, the large creature begins sloshing away.

Ajax stands still for a moment as the large ... Thing ... begins to shuffle off in the other direction. The Gangrel Whip makes a note of the John Carpenter Monster, that is probably something Jillian's buddy Deputy Max should know about. Still he thought the line was pretty good for something thought up off the cuff by a dude who'd just avoided frenzying after being shot in the back with a flare gun.
Anyways the situation was still pretty shitty and the Gangrel knew that he had to get the hell outta here. Needed to meet back up with Jillian and Katrina and regroup. Tonight had been a super sized value meal of McFuck Up but hopefully they'd learned something about the defenses and abilities of the Bums. Ajax began to look around for a way out where ever he was that wasn't going to be filled to the brim with crazy homeless assholes with fire.
It isn't long before the Gangrel noticed a sewer drain leading in the direction he wanted to go, which was anywhere that wasn't this place or the Shantytown. He follows it as it leads away from the Sewer - Thing and away from the Flare Guns and it leads him to ... the river. The Whip looks around to make sure that he's alone and not being followed and provided that he's in the clear he takes out his cell phone and texts a quick message to Jillian and Katrina. They needed to get clear of this whole mess, review what happened and ... well try to make a better plan for next time.
