After stepping through the hedge gate that Marcus had opened through the mirror, they all find themselves in an empty bedroom. It looks fairly similar to the one they just left, minus the furniture. The mirror hanging on the wall is the only item of interest in the room. Owen opens the sack containing the decayed remains of his friend with a look of joy and triumph. The pungent odor of rot wafts out toward all of the other Lost. It smells like rotten fruit and spoiled meat were left out in the sun... in an open sewer... for a year.

"Reece? Reece! I told ya I'd find you! REECE!"

After a second or two, a wispy, shadowy shape begins to materialize next to Owen. Although hazy and insubstantial, it is still definitely recognizable as the form of a young boy of about the same size and apparent age as Owen.

    That's so fucked up.

Night fall thought it, but didn't say it. He did take an instinctive step closer to Alice, though.

A small bulge at the curve of his jaw betrayed his clenched teeth; a rare sign of anger for the Polychromatic. Yet who could stand unaffected by the realization that Owen was forever stained? Always. The Thief of Always had taken an entire life's worth of potential, of innocence.

He was too young to have to begin looking for Salvation, or even redemption.

"Will he be with you always?"
the Fairest asked, curious, and encouraging, despite his dark thoughts.

Owen looks up at Nightfall with his large, creepy eyes as he shrugs.

"I dunno. He couldn't find his body. It's just real important to him. He can't go over there, so I told him I'd find it for him. And I did. Thanks to everybody."

The young Darkling looks around with shy gratitude at the men and women that helped him to find his friend. Well, at least what's left of his friend. The ghostly boy next to him also moves his mouth in thanks, but makes no actual noise. It all might actually be rather sweet if it weren't so disturbing. Patting Owen on the shoulder, Marcus moves away from the awkward scene in order to investigate their surroundings.

    "No worries, mate. No worries..."

Unfortunately, he doesn't come up with anything of interest. The house is rather empty and seems to have been abandoned a while ago.

Perhaps spurred by a desire to put wrongs right, or at the injustice of the boys' plight, the Fairest looks for answers within the house...

Faith turns her head away from the sack and its wafting stench. "Ugh. Shit," she says as she holds up a hand to cover her nose and mouth. There were days when she really wondered if this schtick was really worth it. Which is when she noticed the ghost. "Shit." This time it's astonishment more than disgust. Amazing how that single word could have so many different meanings. Maybe that was why she liked it so much.

Seeing Marcus make a round of the house searching for... something, she hits on the world-class idea that maybe that'll distract her from the problems of the day. "Come on, kid," she says while holding on to Owen's hand. "Let's take a look around. Hold on to your friend." And let one of the others just try to make a comment about her 'maternal instincts' or some such crap. She was protecting the kid, and that's it; Nothing maternal about it. She started to lead him through the house, carefully.

Of course, she had no clue what she was looking for. No clue at all. It made the search a bit senseless, to her anyway. It's only the Wyrd's subtle pushing that kept her from being entirely disinterested in what to find. There was just that little glimmer of Wyrd-ish hope that she might find something. But as she goes through the house, empty room after empty room, that hope dims to nothing. "This place is just f**king empty," she remarks.

    I got nothin'

As Faith makes her haphazard search of the house, she finds two things: Jack and Shit. And Jack obviously left town a while ago. However, as she leads the young Darkling past the picture window in the front room, he pulls at her hand.

"Wait. I think I see my house."

Meanwhile, Nightfall searches areas of the house that hadn't even occurred to the Summer Courtiers. Sure enough, Dawn's lone son finds the hatch in the ceiling that leads into the attic. Sticking his head up in a preliminary scan, the Fairest sees a huge stack of what looks like gardening manuals stacked next to a box of old, moldering Halloween costumes. He also spots an envelope peeking out of one of the books. Upon examination, he finds that it is addressed to one Mr. Peter Milford. Nightfall remembers something about that name... wasn't he an Autumn Courtier back in the day? Yeah, that's right. Wasn't he also rumored to be a Scarecrow Minister?

Spartan just looked around, waiting patiently for something to find. Spartan is not a investigator. He is a hunter, he is a gladiator. He will let those wiser then him do the investigating.

Although they do not discover any other leads, the Lost should consider this trip into the Hedge a success. They had accomplished what they set out to do. Unfortunately, there also lingers a few unanswered questions. However, once they hear that Owen lives down the block, they are more than happy to escort the little Darkling home along with his ghostly friend, Reece. Someone will have to investigate the connection between Peter Milford and the child-stealing Bogeyman on another day.
